Korean personal names

Hi, I need your help. I'm thinking of putting in writing at least a preferred romanization method for dealing with Korean personal names in dramawiki, such as using uh over eo or oo over u. This is what I've compiled so far, I hope that you can have a look at it and see if the list is workable and how it can be improved.

The use of the preferred method is only for the ease of linking dramas to their respective artist pages, in the end, all popular spellings of the artist will be put in the Also known as: section in the artist info page. --A10203040 08:42, 14 Nov 2006 (CST)

Btw, please leave any comments on the list's talk page, thanks. --A10203040 13:38, 15 Nov 2006 (CST)
Hi C51236! Recently, another editor ask me to merge Lee Jae Hoon (1984) with Lee Je Hoon. Since the later name conforms with our Dramawiki romanization perference, I moved the page. To avoid future editing conflicts, please check out DramaWiki:Korean Personal Names Romanization Preferences. Thanks. --WaterOB 01:27, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is not allowed on DramaWiki. If you find a synopsis on any web site outside of D-Addicts, do NOT copy word-for-word the text and paste it into DramaWiki. Groink 20:37, 3 Feb 2007 (CST)

Images containing logos and text

You may not be aware of this, but there is a project currently in place where we're removing all images that contain web site logos and other types of logos and text. From hereon, all artist images MUST be clean of all text and logos. You can find more info about the project, as well as DramaWiki policies regarding images. Groink 22:06, 24 Feb 2007 (CST)

Soompi

Hi, first I just want to thank you for the hard work you put in with building the Korean section! Some of us have noticed though, that some of the Soompi links requires membership to access. If it's possible, could you try to find a link from a section that doesn't require membership? You can chime in at my talk page if you have any comments on that. Thanks! --A10203040 22:00, 5 Apr 2007 (CDT) I believe that there is already an agreement that we cant include a soompi link since the Korean Drama Forum there is a protected site and requires membership. --Marienella

the new picture that you uploaded contains a tag. pls read the rules about uploading pictures. --Marienella

I should modify the rule about the watermarks. The original intent was to avoid images with watermarks placed by 3rd-party web sites, such as the mainstream news sites, or sites not affiliated with a TV network or talent agency. We can however use images from TV network sites like SBS under the fair use guideline that most TV networks are aware of. Same thing goes with talent agency web sites, where most of them encourage other sites to use their images. The exception is Johnny & Associates (actually they don't have any of their tarento on their site anyway, so nothing to worry about there) and other talent agencies who specifically stick the (C) symbol onto their images. Regarding fair use, it doesn't hold water when using images off news sites, which makes sense when the publishers pay the photographers for the photos. But even with all of this, we should still work on using tools like Photoshop to remove all watermarks and other logos. I do this with virtually all of my photos. I'll add this information to the style guide very soon. Groink 03:10, 7 Jun 2007 (CDT)

thank you for that new rule Groink!:)--Marienella

HaHa

The article for the artist HaHa has been tagged to be deleted. Artists who do not have a TV drama to his credit are not allowed on DramaWiki. Groink 01:39, 5 Jul 2007 (CDT)

Images

Please do not upload images with logos. Also, try to select pictures that focus on the artist's face rather than the entire body. --Lady Zhuge 18:52, 4 Mar 2008 (CST)

Goodbye My Love: Lee Hye Young vs. Lee Hye Young (1962)

I believe Lee Hye Young not Lee Hye Young (1962) was in this drama. Check out the 3rd picture in the first row at this link. [1]

Plus the show 안녕 내사랑(MBC,1999) is listed in Lee Hye Young Profile (epg). Thanks --Imian 09:48, 15 Jan 2009 (CET)

duly noted.. i fixed it a while back.. i'll be sure to double check next time. sorry! --C51236 27 Aug 2009

Cast list layout

Hi! I've been thinking about the current cast list layout we use for family dramas/dramas with complicated cast relationships (like New Tales of Gisaeng, Gloria, etc.), and I was wondering whether I could get your input on the matter. We've been listing the main cast under their respective family headings so far, since some family relationships are really complicated and it might be easier to link main characters with their families that way, but after looking at how neat the cast list for I Really Really Like You looks, I wonder whether it might be easier for Wiki users if we put the main cast up the top afterall. Also, how much information should we include? I don't think their ages are necessary, but father/mother/status in an organization? What do you think? --Hanjae 13:03, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I think that putting the leads on the top would make it easier for everyone.. We originally had lead casts at the top but I don't know how but we just started putting leads with their families one day. I agree that ages aren't necessary and we should list important info (i.e. so and so's mother). We don't need to put who is whose friends, etc. --C51236 16:59, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Good idea, let's start doing that again from now on, then. For the labels, how about when there are baby swaps, birth mothers and so on? For example, Ra Ra's aunt Shin Hyo Ri is her birth mother, but if we list that, what about Jang Joo Hee? Or the two girls in Sparkling having swapped mothers, etc. --Hanjae 01:57, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
How much info is too much is the question. In the case of Sparkling, we should label the parents (Go Doo Shim and Kil Yong Woo) as Jung Won's biological father/mother and likewise for Park Jung Soo and Jang Yong as Geum Ran's biological parents. That's how I usually label it. Now Gisaeng Tales is a bit different because Ra Ra was adopted. So should we label Jang Joo Hee as Ra Ra's adoptive mother? How about Geum Eo San? He's Ra Ra's adoptive father and her biological uncle. Are we perhaps labeling too much? Maybe all of this extra info isn't necessary as it could fall in the category of spoilers. We're basically revealing spoilers about the plot/story of the drama.-C51236 04:46, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
That's the problem. Sometimes these "birth secrets" are really spoilers, but then it becomes too wordy to label. E.g. New Tales of Gisaeng, under Shin Hyo Ri's description on the official site cast list, it actually says "Ra Ra's birth mother." In this case and for Sparkling, I think the labels you suggested is a good idea. Neither drama makes much of a secret of it. Perhaps we can put that info in only if it isn't a spoiler for that drama? It's usually easy to tell if the drama meant for it to be a "big reveal" later. The reason why I think it's still a good idea to include info if possible is to facilitate looking up a specific character. For people unfamiliar with the drama, they might be looking for "Ra Ra's real mother" but staring at a whole list of Korean names won't help them. --Hanjae 05:08, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
You're right. I agree that staring at a bunch of Korean names is not going to help anyone especially if they're new to Korean dramas. I think adding some descriptive info like who's related to who wouldn't hurt but then stuff like positions/jobs is not necessary. E.g My Princess. Did we really need to add Royal chef to Lee Ki Kwang's character? Maybe it's just me but looking at that page or pages like that is an eyesore..-C51236 05:23, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, some of those labels on the My Princess page are definitely unnecessary, like "senator" next to Lee Dae Yeon and Son Sung Yoon being "maid most loyal to Seol." For position/job labels, I think we could limit it to cast lists that have a particular company/government agency/work place as a focus? For example, Buyongkak in New Gisaeng, or Queen's Group in Queen of Reversals with general manager/section chief, etc. Or in I Really Really Like You, the presidential staff with their different jobs. --Hanjae 09:19, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
I agree with C51236 that the Korean Cast section is becoming an eyesore with too much frivolous information. All the section needs is the actors' names and the characters they portrait. If the cast list is insanely long and complicated, group them in categories, such as Whatever Family/Whatever Corporation/Whatever Police Department/Whatever Category. Quotation next to their characters such as position, age, relationship to one another should be omitted. If the reader like the cast, they would watch the darn show and find out all the details. More fun to them. If an editor wants to go a step further, a correlation chart is the way to go. It doesn't have to be fancy, it just need to sort out the complicated relationships.--WaterOB 16:57, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Preview function

Hey, sorry about that. Trust me, I use the show preview function as often as I can, but the numerous edits I made to the Secret Garden OST page was because I had already created the page when I noticed I had to do some changes... Then I could only edit one section at a time since there's no other option... that's why it shows as lots of changes every single minute. And also when I first created the page I wasn't yet allowed to add pictures so I had to wait and then edit each section again... I didn't quite think it through. I'll keep this in mind next time I create a page... :) btw I'm brand new to the site so I'm not even sure if I'm leaving this message in the right place... I'm still getting used to the way thinks work on this type of sites.

I see. Well you know that you can actually edit the whole page right? Instead of editing each section one by one? To edit the whole entire Secret Garden section just go to the top of the page. There's an edit tab. Click on it and you can edit the whole page at once instead of editing the sections one by one. --C51236 15:49, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
Oh I didn't know that! Thanks for letting me know!

New pages

Hi, by any chance if you create another new page in the future....please remove hangul in respective drama the actor/actress has been involved. Thanks. --Natokajun (talk) 12:04, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
