DramaWiki copyright?

What is the copyright status of articles written for DramaWiki? Can they be transwiki'd to the Wikipedia? --Kunzite 20:04, 3 Apr 2006 (EDT)

Please take this discussion to the forum here --> [1] and leave this section for the moderators. --YtToshi 22:30, 3 Apr 2006 (EDT)
I'd rather not have to register for another service which I'm not ever going to use. If this place is only for admin chatter, you really should state it the top or move this to the talk page. --Kunzite 23:06, 11 Apr 2006 (EDT)
transwiki'ding is generally frown upon. Its better if you just provide a link to the relevant DramaWiki pages from Wikipedia. --Ruroshin 19:01, 4 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Articles consisting of just links are not allowed in the Wikipedia. Stubs of Japanese television shows also have a hard time passing notability standards. A lot of the articles here would also be quicly deleted because of thier lack of content. (Wikipedia has a lot of 'deletionists' -- just publishing a list of shows an actor has been known to attract one of them. I got one on aseiyuu translation that I did last week even though it a lot of biographical information.)
I'm not interested in wholesale copying or even minor copying. I started cleaning the "dorama" section after translating some articles on audio drama and seiyu from jp Wikipedia. (I really have no interest in the subject; I usually stick to the stage and animated varieties of Japanese drama.)
The second reason I want to know the specific copyright status for this site is in the event that content if copied from here to the Wikipedia or vice versa. This affects how Wikipedia users decide to keep certain items and the like such. (It also may mean that you may not be able to use or protect info taken from Wikipedia i.e. a translation of the jp Wikipedia page. Per: wp license) DramaWiki has no clearly visable license information.
Someone also should add this wiki to the MetaWiki:Interwiki_map for easy linking. --Kunzite 23:06, 11 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Although this may not be Ruroshin's reason, it is certainly mine... I just don't want the contents of DramaWiki to be plastered all over all the other wiki sites. My feeling is the same with the reverse - I don't like seeing people copying information off the other wiki's and onto DramaWiki. My personal goal is for DramaWiki to be the number-1 resource of Asian TV drama information. If our information is duplicated elsewhere, we're going to lose that edge. --Groink 20:12, 4 Apr 2006 (EDT)
I will agree with. Although I believe in free information just try not to copy and paste info from other wikis and likewise don't copy and paste to other wikis. --Ruroshin 06:50, 12 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Oh, boy. I knew I should have written DramaWiki:Copyrights some months ago. I'll do that soon (and probably move this discussion to its talkpage). Just to make it short. Reproduction and Distribution of DramaWiki content cannot be allowed. However, you may cite content or link to our site. Just treat it like a research paper... you may use it but you are not allowed to claim it as yours. Another reason we cannot make it freely distributable is because some content isn't ours, but citations from other websites. Wikipedia would never accept our pages alone for these reason. And we don't want that either (see previous reasons by Groink and Ruroshin). --MoerkJ 15:55, 12 Apr 2006 (EDT)
I am being a pain, aren't I? -- Ok, but under that type of license you will have to remove (or annotate?) anything taken from the Wikipedia (including translations from the Japanese Wikipedia as they are considered derivative and require a GFDL license (This section, I believe, but please double check.) And do you guys really use kunreisiki? --Kunzite 20:55, 12 Apr 2006 (EDT)

No license?

So there is no explict license for contributed content? I don't really want to contribute unless I can be sure my contributions will be and remain Free content. With no explict license we do not have the right to move the content to a new site if this site goes down for any reason. --Pmsyyz 13:41, 4 Jun 2006 (EDT)

I'm going to say DramaWiki falls under the creative commons deed: Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike.
Please take a moment to read this: http://intelligentdesigns.net/Licenses/NC Thank you. --Pmsyyz 12:47, 17 Jun 2006 (EDT)
After researching a bit I will agree with that article and so have change the license for DramaWiki to Attribution-ShareAlike --Ruroshin 07:26, 14 Jul 2006 (EDT)
Sadly that's not the way it works. You cannot simply change the licensing on the works of other authors when you wish. The upload page on this site reads,
"Please note that all contributions to DramaWiki may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors. If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly, then don't submit it here.
"You are also promising us that you wrote this yourself, or copied it from a public domain or similar free resource (see Project:Copyrights for details). DO NOT SUBMIT COPYRIGHTED WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION!"
That is the extent of the licensing information (since the copyrights page is blank) that users contributed content under. Beyond that disclaimer, the status of the text is highly arguable, and subject to the laws of the country in which you try to determine the licensing. THIS is the reason that Wikis such as Wikipedia spend so much time making it very clear what exact license contributions are made under, and policing contributions that are not compatible with their licensing. It's not that they want to force everyone to agree with them, it's that copyright law is a huge, problematic mess even when you're dealing only with one country. When you deal with ALL countries, it's impossible to untangle without a clear definition and understanding in writing, up-front. -Ajs 11:47, 22 Jul 2006 (EDT)
This is indeed a quite difficult matter. (Which is why the copyright page is still blank.) DramaWiki is not a wiki like Wikipedia, which has much tighter rules so they can claim everything their own in order to create redistributable content. To me it seems the above mentioned license cannot be applied to all our content. That is because DramaWiki contains information created by our users (the above mentioned license applies here), quoted information from other sources (which could be a problem in some cases, but no author has complained so far. The above mentioned license obviously can't be applied here.), and common knowledge (which, I think, cannot be copyrighted at all, so that license should be ok). If somebody adds information from other sources without crediting them, then we will have to remove it or add at least the proper credits. Besides many cited synopsis texts, I consider most of the DramaWiki's content common knowledge. All uncredited text should be considered "ours". Maybe one goal should be to replace all quoted text, which isn't free, with content written by our users. --MoerkJ 09:55, 23 Jul 2006 (EDT)

Front Page Redesign

I would like to redesign the front page so that all the six countries appear without having to scroll down. I would like to hear/see any suggestions or example on how to format it from the community. --Ruroshin 07:29, 14 Jul 2006 (EDT)

I'll start working on some design ideas. Groink 20:40, 14 Jul 2006 (EDT)
What do you guys think of this design? Groink 22:04, 15 Jul 2006 (EDT)
Looks pretty good. I was thinking of getting rid of the drama 0-Z title index links altogether and just have a normal link to the drama category.
The 0-Z is actually a nice feature. It cuts out that one extra step [Main page -> drama cat w/letter -> drama] versus [Main page -> drama cat -> drama cat w/letter -> drama]. It may not be useful right now for the drama categories of 200 and less. But for the Japanese dramas, because it is so huge right now, the 0-Z at the main page makes the interface more convenient. Groink 06:11, 16 Jul 2006 (EDT)
I like the new look of the DramaWiki. Great job Groink and Ruroshin. It's a lot more cleaner and accessible, compared to previous front page, where you have to scroll down the page just to find the category you're looking for. Keep up the good work. --YtToshi 00:50, 17 Jul 2006 (EDT)

List of Dramas by Network in 2006

I've been meaning to add a List of Dramas aired in <Country> by Network in 2006 to the wiki for quite a while now. Below is a list of what I've compiled so far, what do you think of the lists and should I go ahead with moving the list into the wiki? Regards. --A10203040 17:29, 14 Oct 2006 (EDT)

Would it be more efficient if the dramas were sorted by date/time rather than TV network? In Japan, the date/time is more important than the TV network (ex: golden time), which is why we have the Japanese drama lists sorted as such. Is the TV network more important in other markets? Other than that, good work; shows you've put a lot of effort and time into those pages. Groink 20:21, 14 Oct 2006 (EDT)
I sorted it by Network as dramas in these places usually go back-to-back(eg: drama A will be followed by drama B the week after drama A ends its run). Missing out a replacing drama is less likely with this kind of list IMO. I feel a user using this list will not have much problems looking for dramas by timeslots as it is also sorted by timeslots under their respective networks. --A10203040 05:31, 15 Oct 2006 (EDT)
That's cool. Yes, go ahead and move it out to the public area. As long as it sits under your "User" area, no one will touch it. Groink 06:24, 15 Oct 2006 (EDT)
Ok, I'll start moving them in. --A10203040 07:02, 15 Oct 2006 (EDT)

Korean personal names

I've been looking around the Korean cast and crew pages for quite a while and I feel that the romanization of personal names in the Wiki have been quite inconsistant. One such example is that 서 is romanized Suh in some pages (Seo Ji Hee, Suh Ji Young) and Seo in others (Seo Ji Hye, Seo Do Young). I know that korean names have a problem of being inconsistantly romanized in many places on the web, but I hope to have a list of preferred methods of romanizing those names within the wiki (such as Suh over Seo) just for the linking of names. I think that it would be better than to have them those running all over the place and leaving many articles incorrectly linked.

Below is a link to the list of what I came up with so far, and I hope that everyone can give their opinions about the list and if it such a list can be implementable. --A10203040 09:08, 14 Nov 2006 (CST)

user:A10203040/Korean personal names

Wow! Good work! I know absolutely nothing about Korean. I even once asked if the cook could heat up that cold noodle dish. I had no idea how complicated the Hangul writing system is. So I'll leave the Korean work in your hands! :) Groink 15:21, 14 Nov 2006 (CST)
Thanks, although I'm not too good at the romanization issue myself so I really hope to hear some comments on the list's talk page and hopefully everyone will be agreeable with the final product. --A10203040 13:16, 15 Nov 2006 (CST)

I've reformatted the Korean Personal Names Romanization Preferences list to how it will look like in it's final form, along with Romanization of Hangul guidelines. Please have a look and comment on what you think of it and if any changes should made to them. Thanks --A10203040 07:03, 17 Nov 2006 (CST)

Korean Guidelines Draft

While working on the name preference list, I took the opportunity to also draft out the Korean section guidelines. Please have a look and tell me if the guidelines are agreeable, and if any changes to them are needed. Thanks --A10203040 06:55, 22 Nov 2006 (CST)

update: I've just posted the Korean section guidelines, they're now in the below locations. Please review them and if necessary, discuss any revisions to them in their respective talk pages, thanks! --A10203040 13:34, 29 Nov 2006 (CST)

Good work! VERY good work!!! Thanks everyone! We now have all the genres covered. Groink 16:28, 29 Nov 2006 (CST)
