Synopsis

The MIU, Mobile Investigation Unit, is the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Criminal Unit's first responders for initial crime investigations. Working round the clock, every MIU team only has up to 4 days to resolve each case, after which the case will be transferred to the MPD's other specialized investigation units.

In the MIU's 4th unit are 2 detectives by the names of Ibuki Ai and Shima Kazumi. Ibuki is an athletic guy with great reflexes, but is rash and pretty idiotic most times. He has a sharp sense of smell, but it is unsure if he can actually detect the smells in the air or he is just good at reading the situation. Having moved from one precinct to another, his longest stint was the 8 years he's spent at one of the neighborhood police box in Okutama. Totally clueless about the job of a first responder, but yet pouring his heart and soul into his job, it is up to Shima to hold Ibuki back from his usual act-first, think-later behavior.

Shima used to be part of the MPD's Investigation Division One (cream of the crop) but for some reason, he was transferred to the precinct's Driving Test Center. One day, he was summoned by Kikyo Yuzuru to return to active duty under the MIU. Though he is well-regarded and trusted by Kikyo and Jinba Kohei due to his many years as an Investigator, Shima himself trusts no one, not even himself. With his excellent observation and social skills, he tends to plan ahead rationally and logically but Ibuki often causes him to waver in his judgement. -- by TBS
