Review
By geoffropuff
geoffropuff says: Only if you have time / STAY AWAY

When I initially watched this show, I thought it was pretty good. I mean, it has a plot, develops its characters, and wraps itself up in a nice package. It's better than these American shows that just continuously go on forever without really achieving anything, right? As I watched more drama, this show dropped lower and lower on my list, eventually ending up near the bottom. I'll tell you why.

Toko, played by Fukada Kyoko, is supposed to be this cute girl who goes after the guy she loves. She will do this by following him wherever he goes like a little puppy, breaking into his apartment when he isn't there, and looking at him from afar. Some will think this is cute, while I personally think she's a STALKER. What's so cute about a girl who will break into the guy she like's apartment? What's so cute about a girl who says "Ne. Ne. Ne. Ne. Ne. Ne. Ne. Ne. Ne."x100 and just yells her love's name over and over again?

Tokieda Yuji, played by Domoto Tsuyoshi, is an equally annoying character. He loves his boss, but doesn't tell her. Then he tries to use the stalker girl to get over his unrequitted love. Then he goes back to liking the other girl. Then he gets with stalker girl, etc. etc. etc. Makes me think he's just this lonely guy who needs to constantly get some.

The thing that redeems this drama is the fact that the acting is good. I mean, the characters are pretty annoying, but they were meant to be like that. Kyoko and Tsuyoshi did what they were told. I can't imagine anyone who could pull off the stalker puppy role better than Kyoko Fukada. In fact, she plays this same role in other shows, but that's beside the point.

The opening theme song is by Des'ree, not a Japanese singer. The words don't really make a lot of sense, but to the Japanese who don't fully grasp English, it's good, but to us in America, it's only bearable. Even though the song is sung by a British? singer in English, the way the words are set up remind me of something I'd hear on Engrish.com. The ending theme is a typical song by Kinki Kids, so if you like them, which I do, then you'll like the song.

Overall, if you like stories that involve a small animal who stalks a boxer who loves his boss at a flower shop, then this show is for you. If not, well, I probably wouldn't waste my time.
Synopsis
This fast-paced drama tells the story of three young women in the world of investigative journalism.
Kyoko was happily working in the children's literature department of a major publishing firm when she is suddenly transferred to the editorial department of an infamous tabloid where nothing is considered taboo. From picture books and children's stories she is thrust into a world of scoops and scandals feeding off murder, corruption, and sleaze. Joining her in this battlefield are new colleagues: Eri is assigned to the sex scandal beat despite her masters degree in mass media, while Ayumi is stuck at a desk job waiting for her chance to cover a story. Their boss was formerly a top reporter at a major newspaper, but the circumstances surrounding his quitting to go freelance ten years ago remain a mystery. As the plot unfolds a big news story from the past surfaces again, and the young women are caught up in an unexpected happening...
Synopsis
Serial killers driven by deviant desires-the only way to stop them is to understand them. This thrilling drama series is based on the current popularity of criminal psychology. Kirie works as a psychological profiler with the local detective squad. Using crime-scene data, she puts together a likely profile of the culprit based on the system devised by the F.B.I. But events from her own past help explain her ambition in this trade... Kirie works closely with two other investigators, Tsuji, the chief homicide investigator, and Fubuki, the youngest detective on the team. Fubuki's obvious admiration for Kirie and her work are offset by Tsuji's lack of faith in the profiling profession. But both are driven by their unwavering desire to bring the killers to justice.

Synopsis
My dream... is to become a "pretty bride"
Every woman must have thought so, at least once.

"Actress," "announcer," "flight attendant"... there are many occupations a girl dreams of. Still, number one on the list is no doubt "bride." The one and only moment when that "bride" becomes a beaming existence, is at her "wedding." It's a moment when the bride and groom become the stars of the show. That's why people's passion and willingness to have a successful wedding is just extraordinary.

Weddings during the great bubble years were extravagant. But that was the past. Now the trend is having fancy weddings in restaurants or in a rented home, somewhat like those in Europe and in the United States. That's why we need wedding planners. They're there to listen to the couple's needs, and create a wedding full of originality. A wedding is a once in a lifetime experience (with some exceptions, of course). Both the bride and groom are wedding beginners. With their rich know-how and experience, wedding planners play a significant role in helping these beginners to have the time of their life.

Since it's a once in a lifetime event, couples ask for the impossible. Demands even come from the couple's parents too. Wedding planners have no choice but to listen to all their requests, go through tremendous trouble, and be responsible for everything. Their job is really tough both physically and mentally. Who can imagine that from the flamboyant world they create?

This is a love comedy that takes you behind the scenes of the latest bridal businesses, as well as the human drama of engaged couples, seen through the wedding planners' eyes, as they help to put on weddings.

Toru Oomori (29) works in the accounting department of a medium-sized firm. Unable to escape restructuring by his company, he gets sent to work at an affiliated company, "Sweet Bridal," as its president. Toru realizes his days as a salaried worker are numbered. That's why he's determined to increase sales, and regain lost ground.

There's one major problem though...
An incident hit him one year ago that makes work here, just too miserable. This is where our story begins.

The sky was absolutely clear on this April day, one year ago. The scene, a solemn wedding, in a church where the bride is strolling down the aisle. Ahead of her is the groom, with a huge smile on his face. The church is filled with a pleasant and happy atmosphere...

...and then, a scream breaks the silence. "Yoko!" yells a man who barges into the church. Without thinking, the bride dashes across to him, and the two flee together. The church is now in an uproar, and the groom standing astonished. We've seen this scene in the movie, "The Graduate". What's different from the movie however, is that the main character of this story is not the man who stole the bride, but the foolish groom who had her stolen. Marriage sure has its traumas, doesn't it?

In the company, "Sweet Bridal," not only are all the employees women, but all of them have difficult personalities.

Kanako Terashima (34) who lives with her son Taku (8), was left by her husband for another women after five years of marriage. Although she's the vice-president, Kanako is the one who literally runs the company. To Kanako who loves her job, what bugs and irritates her the most is Toru. All he says is, "the bridal industry makes big money!" The two are nothing but enemies. Nobody knows this, but the pipe organist who played at Toru's wedding a year ago was actually Kanako. Yes, an eyewitness to that disaster.

There's also the mature, calm, and beautiful Misaki Uno (30), a perfectionist in everything she does. She is the only person who is happily together with a boyfriend, within "Sweet Bridal." At a glance, she seems to have no problems at work, nor in her love life, but actually,...

Kurumi Aizawa (22) is like Kanako's younger sister. She wants to get married more than anybody else, and can't wait to wear a wedding dress. But when it comes to her own love life, things don't go that smoothly. She can't help feeling inferior to Miss Perfect, Misaki. Kurumi is struggling to find her own self, both at work and in her love life.

Toru feels isolated in this all-female company, so he invites Shuhei Narumi to work for him. Shuhei was Toru's junior in the same photography club at college. Shuehei became a professional photographer at a young age, and worked as an exclusive cameraman for a famous magazine. He must have been through tough times at work, because his friendly and innocent personality from college is now nowhere to be seen. The bridal industry of course, doesn't interest him at all.

Can people who can't even handle their own love lives succeed as wedding planners???

Let's just forget about the men. As for the ladies, even though they have difficult personalities, one thing they have in common is that they all want to "make the wedding a success."

Staying up all night sewing a wedding dress, making the bouquet with painfully chapped fingertips, being yelled at by a restaurant owner, the gospel singers they hire are not only tone deaf but can't dance, the wedding cake collapses, guests get drunk, a bride's father bursts into tears, falling in love with the groom, comforting a bride who has marriage-blue...

Though this business isn't an easy task, all they want to do is "make the wedding a success." Even Toru, who thought wedding receptions were foolish, is touched by their success. Enemies Kanako and Toru, soon learn to respect each other through observing couples having the time of their life. It's not long before the other employees learn to work as a team...

And Toru's wedding trauma...

In this romantic comedy, the story unfolds within a wedding planning company filled with love, laughter, and occasional tears.
Synopsis
Synopsis 1
15-year-old Ikeuchi Aya was an ordinary girl, the daughter of a family who works at a tofu shop, and a soon-to-be high schooler. However, odd things have been happening to Aya lately. She has been falling down often and walks strange. Her mother, Shioka, takes Aya to see the doctor, and he informs Shioka that Aya has spinocerebellar degeneration - a terrible disease where the cerebellum of the brain gradually deteriorates to the point where the victim cannot walk, speak, write, or eat. A cruel disease, as it does not affect the mind in the least. How will Aya react when told about her disease? And how will Aya live from now on?

Synopsis 2
This beautifully moving drama is based on the real-life struggles of a 15-year-old girl named Aya who suffered from an incurable disease, but lived life to the fullest until her death at 25. The script is based on the diary Aya kept writing until she could no longer hold a pen. The book that later followed entitled "One Litre of Tears" has sold over 1.1 million copies in Japan alone.

Aya's only wish was "to live." By carefully depicting Aya's earnest desire to live, and the love of her family, friends, and lover, the drama, "One Litre of Tears" wishes to deliver her simple but strong message: "Just being alive is such a lovely and wonderful thing." ---Fuji TV
Reviews
This is a lot like Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai wo Sakebu. (For those who've never seen this drama/movie, it's about a girl sick with leukemia.)

Although this is a really sad drama, I recommend it. It's tear-jerking for the most part, but definitely has its cute moments. You really grow to love each member of Ikeuchi's family also.

by Daemonneko
Based on a true story, One Litre of Tears is about the life story Kitou Aya (1962-1988) a girl who had an incurable disease called Spinocerebellar Degeneration Disease (also known as SCA type 2; spinocerebellar ataxia type 2)at a young age of 15. Although the girl in the drama - Ikeuchi Aya, lived in the 21st century, her character was based on Kitou Aya's life, how she struggled and fought her disease and how she wrote her deepest thoughts until the last day she could hold a pen. Before she died, her writings were published including the poems she wrote while she is staying in a school for the disabled. This gave new hopes to people who suffers the same disease as she did and soon Aya received letters of appreciation and thanks from those people. At the age of 25, she succumbed herself into a sleep where she could no longer feel any pain.

Ichi Rittoru no Namida is a heart-warming drama that will make people happy for the simple fact that they are alive, and will give hope to those who suffers from diseases and will make them think positive about leaving instead of giving up easily.

I give this drama two-thumbs up!
Synopsis
Nakategawa, Iwata, and Nishidera are students at a low-level university, who set up a hiking club in order to meet girls. Their first catches comprise Harue and Yoko, who are studying to be nurses, and the plain Ayako who attends an elite women's college. Nakategawa also gets to know a club hostess Natsue, who is living with the misanthropic Honda, a Tokyo University graduate who runs a com-puter business from home.

As a coda to Japan's many educational dramas, Fuzoroi no Ringotachi features a new perspective on the importance attached to academic honors. Its characters chiefly lack any self-confidence and vision for the future but still make it through, regardless of their apparent failure to do well in the examination culture that so often defines "success".
Synopsis
Junichi is a scout recruiting girls for work in night clubs; but in contrast to what he does, he is actually a sentimental person at heart. Nanami, who is a music teacher at a junior high school, wishes that something would happen to change the course of her ordinary life. Being from a high-class family and having committed to an arranged marriage with a government official, she and the street smart Junichi are from two different worlds. Their initial meetings always ended in disdain for the other, but when Junichi helps her find some sheets of music precious to her, she begins to think that he could change her life. Although it goes against everything that her upbringing has taught her, Nanami decides to give him a chance. --TBS
Synopsis
A man is cooking a steak in an apartment kitchen. Although his skills are a bit rusty, his usage of spices and way of pouring brandy to light a fire is quite a sight. He's Shinsuke Kuwano, an architect. He starts taking bites of the steak when his cell phone rings. It's Eiji Murakami, Shinsuke's assistant at the office. He has called to remind Shinsuke of a party that he was supposed to attend.

"Mr. Kuwano, you were the one invited. Why aren't you here?"
"Eiji, did you know that the ancient Romans partied by lying on the floor and feasting with their hands?"
"You have to come. There's somebody that wants to build a house soon."

Later on at the party, Shinsuke finds Eiji hitting on a girl. "Did you know that five-story pagodas are actually one-story high?" This is a piece of trivia that Shinsuke had told him. Shinsuke stands out at the party with his handsome looks. When he learns that a girl at the party is interested in him, for some reason, he starts talking endlessly about architecture, eventually boring the girl. Eiji says, "Mr. Kuwano, if you don't do something about your personality, you'll never be able to get married." "I like being alone!" replies Shinsuke.

In the meantime, at a Japanese restaurant, Natsumi Hayasaka is reluctantly having dinner with an arranged date. When Natsumi feels that the topic of conversation is heading towards marriage, she finally speaks up.

At a later date, Maya Sawasaki, who works in the housing industry is giving a tour of a house Shinsuke designed. Maya is confident of landing a deal with a customer, but Shinsuke just can't keep his mouth shut, ruining the deal. Although Maya and Eiji are fed up with Shinsuke's personality, they still respect his way of designing homes, focusing on the kitchen — the place in the house where family warmth is built upon.
Synopsis
Haruka Tsubaki hops on a plane from New York to Tokyo. She will be filling in the newscaster position on a news program that will begin airing on CNB Television. Haruka used to work as an anchor and was called "the legendary anchor" until she was involved in an incident that forced her to lose her position there. She flew to America alone to pursue her career as a journalist. It is Katsutoshi Shibata, the Senior Executive Director of the News Department that brushed aside strong oppositions and invited Haruna back. He tells her, "Do whatever you like. I'll take the responsibility."

At the headquarters of CNB, producer Shokichi Ichiba, director Kensuke Kanihara, announcer Mei Nohara, and the other crew are standing by for a meeting with Haruka. With great fear, they await the arrival of the legendary anchor. But when the door opens, only Katsutoshi is standing. He says Haruka headed to check out the news studio as soon as she arrived at CNB. The crew try to extend their greetings to her, but she pays no attention. Instead, she dismisses the programming strategy she was given, and insists, "Go for scoops."

What's more surprising is that Haruka appoints Nozomi Asuka — who was scheduled to deliver weather forecasts — as her assistant. She tells Asuka that it's the assistant's job to work alongside her for 24 hours and wake her up every morning. "Why do I have to spend my private time with her...?" Full of doubts, Nozomi heads to Haruka's apartment with her luggage. What awaits her? --Fuji TV
