Synopsis
Sorimachi Takashi plays Eikichi Onizuka, a graduate of a third-rate University and the leader of a motorcycle gang, whose lifelong dream is to become a teacher. After being hired by a seemingly eccentric principal, Onizuka begins his unconventional way of teaching a hopeless group of troublemakers. Although he meets much opposition from the students and teachers themselves, his warmth and passion for teaching eventually convinces everyone that Onizuka truly has the makings of a Great Teacher.

Review by Iceberri
Perhaps one of the most inspirational dramas I've ever seen, Great Teacher Onizuka is truly a classic that few will ever forget. Although Onizuka's methods of teaching are certainly not conventional and rather extreme, he conveys his true and genuine passion for "teaching," which touches even the most stone-cold of viewers. Sorimachi Takashi's acting was excellent throughout the series - there was hardly a moment when I was not enraptured by his charming personality and goofy grins.

Besides Sorimachi who, with little exaggeration, stole the show, the supporting cast also provided an excellent backdrop and played convincing parts. In particular, I liked Kubozuka Yousuke's and Nanako Matsushima's - one as an intelligent and witty student, the latter as a righteous teacher who, after misjudging the rough appearance of Onizuka, begins to fall for him.

Because Great Teacher Onizuka is based off an anime/manga, there are certain aspects of the drama that reflects its origins. Certainly, Onizuka's exaggerated facial expressions and poses are characteristics of any anime, which makes GTO a great transition series from anime to drama. As I've observed, many anime watchers converted to drama because of the live-action, including myself! Frankly, I have not looked back on anime since.

As for the musical soundtrack, even after months having gone by without listening to it, I still remember that Poison, sung by Sorimachi Takashi (the opening song), is incredible, as well as Fuyutsuki Azusa's ballad. There are several version of Poison, but my favorite is the piano version.

There were only a few very minimal complaints I had about this live-action, as I loved nearly every aspect of it. The series was a bit too episodic, where in each episode, the viewer could expect to see yet another student who Onizuka wins over. The plot never really thickens until the last few episodes, where it truly picks up and ends with a grand flourish, which was satisfying. Even with the typical episodic plot though, I enjoyed every episode watching Sorimachi use his peculiar methods and observing the eventual acceptance and respect he garners from his students and fellow teachers. I love this series, and remains one of my favorite Japanese doramas to date.<br>

Rating: Life-Altering (5/5)

Review by geoffropuff
geoffropuff says: Life-altering

I would have to agree with ice on this one. This drama is one memorable ride. Takashi Sorimachi's character, Onizuka, absolutely captures the hearts of viewers with his effective, yet unconventional, style of teaching. There were so many times I found myself cracking up to the point where my roommates thought i was having some kind of seizure or something. He does a fantastic job at exaggerating his facial features, so as similar to the manga and the anime.

The other characters did a good job of supporting the character of Onizuka. While his character is good enough to carry a show on its own, it's nice to see that the other characters were much better than forgettable. In particular, I liked the characters of Fuyutsuki, Tomoko, and Murai. Fuyutsuki was the teacher who, while she looked pretty and nice, actually had a "second face". Tomoko was a student who wasn't particularly good at anything, but was a really good friend. Murai was a student with internal conflicts regarding his father and authority figures, but really wanted to trust Onizuka.

Again I agree with ice. The music is very memorable. Even though many of the songs are different renditions of Poison by Takashi Sorimachi, I enjoy every single one. The piano version is also my favorite, with the regular vocal version coming in a close second.

Of course, this drama isn't perfect. It was very episodic, but most shows with this type of theme are very episodic. I feel that it was pulled off very well. For me, though, the biggest flaw was in a couple characters. I could not stand the head teacher's daughter and wife. They were supposed to be very annoying and demanding and such, but they did it so well, they made me angry on more than one occasion. Other from this fact. I really loved all the characters. Even though this was only the second drama I ever watched, it remains my favorite drama to date. I've seen it 3 times and counting............
Synopsis
This series is different from the past detective stories. The Lieutenant is collection of true mystery stories in which the detective, Ninzabuto Furuhata, must solve ingenious crimes and outwit elusive criminals. Although Ninzabuto Furuhata is a government officer, he does not wear a tie. Although he specializes in murder cases, he does not carry a gun. He does not use violence. More than anything, Ninzaburo Furuhata conducts himself as a gentleman, and uncovers the tricks which outwitting genius criminals play by cool reasoning and smooth talking. In every episode, Ninzabuto Furuhata will introduce a different criminal in his memory, and share his experience tracking and interacting with these criminals.
Biography
Biography 1
Norika Fujiwara is very popular in Japan as well as in Hong Kong and China. Because of her outstanding appearance and measurement, she is regarded as the Eastern sexy goddess. She is a TV and movie actor, while she also takes many catwalk modelling job.

Fujiwara's love life is always the focus of the press. Japanese actor and model Masaya Kato and Hong Kong pop star Aaron Kwok are both rumored to be her boyfriend before.

Biography 2
She can safely be described as the female face of the late '90s. It was impossible to walk the streets, read a magazine or watch TV without seeing the chipmunk features of this former Miss Japan beaming at you. The most ubiquitous advertising was for the mobile phone company J-Phone but Fujiwara's marketing power has boosted sales for countless other products over the last few years.

She was scouted while still in high school and pursued a modeling career through her university years, gracing the covers of several national magazines. After the huge break of winning the Miss Japan contest in 1992, she moved to the capital and started on expanding her resume. Her looks landed her prime TV roles opposite such heart-throbs as Takahashi Katsunori and Inagaki Goro of SMAP. Her biggest Tv hits include Okuman-choja to Kekon Suru Hoho (How to Marry a Millionaire) and Naomi. In the latter, she played a predatory high school teacher whose sexual exploits with her students led to complaints from viewers about her 'immoral behavior'.

Something of a 'daikon yakusha' (ham actor) she needs to rely on her looks rather than her dramatic skills to survive. A strategic change of hairstyle is enough to send the gossip shows into a frenzy and put her on the front page of the tabloids. Perhaps in order to live up to the figure of her very own Barbie-style 'Norika' doll, Fujiwara keeps in shape by regularly working out. She is also known as a keen fan of the martial arts and was a friend of the late Swiss K-1 fighter Andy Hug. This less than cutesy side to her character indicate that there may be more to this woman than her PR machine let us see. But the always image-conscious Japanese geinokai (entertainment world) will no doubt have the last say so she is a prime candidate for Celebrity Bride of the Year should such an event come about. Reports of her relationship with US-based actor Kato Masaya are routinely denied but the rumor mills keep churning.

Fujiwara has a better than average English ability and appeared in the Hong Kong action movie China Strike Force in 2000. We may be seeing more of her on the international stage yet.
Biography
The 1997 lightweight drama series Beach Boys created two male heart-throbs who have managed to stay popular since: Takenouchi Yutaka and Sorimachi Takashi. While Takeouchi is the quieter, pretty-boy type, Sorimachi is more in the brash, macho mould. This image matched that of the hero of the hit manga Great Teacher Onizuka, who Sorimachi brought to life on the screen in an inexplicably popular TV drama series and subsequent movie.

I used the word 'inexplicably' to describe GTO's popularity but it was based on solid economic principles - the original manga was a best-seller, the show's male and female leads (Matsushima Nanako - later to become his wife, was the female half) were highly marketable up-and-coming stars and the series touched on a lot of the raw nerves exposed by recent problems in the eductional system and with young Japanese in general. My problem stems from Sorimachi's total lack of acting ability (In fact, writing profiles on personalities like this always makes me think I should have a seperate section for the essentially talentless). The more generous critics claim that he makes up for this in charisma and star quality. Whatever.

Born Noguchi Takashi in Saitama Prefecture, his ambitions led him to the famous Johnny's Jimusho agency, home of SMAP. Like SMAP, he found himself in the late '80s as a backing dancer to the idol boy-band of the day, the roller-skating Hikaru Genji. He later changed direction and moved into modeling. He graced popular magazine covers, appeared in Benetton ads and did catwalk shows in Tokyo and Europe.

He made his TV debut at the age of 21 and gradually landed bigger roles. His first starring role was in Virgin Road in early 1997 but Beach Boys was his big break. He released an eponymous album of original music the same year. In February 2001, Sorimachi married his GTO co-star Matsushima and inevitably they were dubbed the Heisei Big Couple (the Heisei Era being from 1989).
Envoy Norika gets a letter of thanks

Leggy Norika Fujiwara has been awarded an official letter of thanks from Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi following the end of the actress' year-long stint as a Japan-South Korea Goodwill Ambassador.

Kawaguchi thanked Norika as she presented her with the certificate and praised her for her work.
Norika spent much of 2002 promoting relations with Japan's closest neighbor, especially during the soccer World Cup, which Japan co-hosted with South Korea.

"It was a wonderful experience," the gorgeous actress said. "I'd never been to south Korea before, but visited eight times last year, including private trips." (Mainichi Shimbun, Feb. 25, 2003)

Biography
Many beautiful young actresses get their start as a 'campaign girl', or swimwear poster girl for a Japanese corporation. In this case of Matsushima, an 18-year old aspiring model, the company was Asahi Kasei - a pharmeceuticals company with no relation to swimwear whatsoever. A year later, in 1993, she got the more visible 'image girl' job with Asahi Beer. Another couple of years of slogging saw her make her TV debut in a forgettable TV drama. Her break came when she auditioned for and got the lead in the 1996 NHK morning drama series Himawari (Sunflower). Unlike the commercial TV stations, NHK has the reputation in Japan of producing 'quality' programs and successful exposure there often brings the prestige of being a 'real' actor.

The following year saw the job offers come flooding in. Suddenly Matsushima was everywhere, appearing in TV dramas, commercials and movies. She starred in the 1996 TV horror series Ringu (The Ring) which became a hugely popular movie a couple of years later. In 2000, she co-starred in the big action movie of the year, White Out alongside Oda Yuji. She also carried a major three-part, end-of-the-century series entitled Hyakunen no Monogatari (100-year Story) in which she played three different, but related, heroines over three generations. Her popularity is widespread and she regularly tops such polls as 'best jeanist' or 'favorite female star'. In February 2001, she hit the headlines again when she married the popular actor Sorimachi Takashi. The two starred together in the TV drama series GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka a couple of years earlier.
Synopsis
My dream... is to become a "pretty bride"
Every woman must have thought so, at least once.

"Actress," "announcer," "flight attendant"... there are many occupations a girl dreams of. Still, number one on the list is no doubt "bride." The one and only moment when that "bride" becomes a beaming existence, is at her "wedding." It's a moment when the bride and groom become the stars of the show. That's why people's passion and willingness to have a successful wedding is just extraordinary.

Weddings during the great bubble years were extravagant. But that was the past. Now the trend is having fancy weddings in restaurants or in a rented home, somewhat like those in Europe and in the United States. That's why we need wedding planners. They're there to listen to the couple's needs, and create a wedding full of originality. A wedding is a once in a lifetime experience (with some exceptions, of course). Both the bride and groom are wedding beginners. With their rich know-how and experience, wedding planners play a significant role in helping these beginners to have the time of their life.

Since it's a once in a lifetime event, couples ask for the impossible. Demands even come from the couple's parents too. Wedding planners have no choice but to listen to all their requests, go through tremendous trouble, and be responsible for everything. Their job is really tough both physically and mentally. Who can imagine that from the flamboyant world they create?

This is a love comedy that takes you behind the scenes of the latest bridal businesses, as well as the human drama of engaged couples, seen through the wedding planners' eyes, as they help to put on weddings.

Toru Oomori (29) works in the accounting department of a medium-sized firm. Unable to escape restructuring by his company, he gets sent to work at an affiliated company, "Sweet Bridal," as its president. Toru realizes his days as a salaried worker are numbered. That's why he's determined to increase sales, and regain lost ground.

There's one major problem though...
An incident hit him one year ago that makes work here, just too miserable. This is where our story begins.

The sky was absolutely clear on this April day, one year ago. The scene, a solemn wedding, in a church where the bride is strolling down the aisle. Ahead of her is the groom, with a huge smile on his face. The church is filled with a pleasant and happy atmosphere...

...and then, a scream breaks the silence. "Yoko!" yells a man who barges into the church. Without thinking, the bride dashes across to him, and the two flee together. The church is now in an uproar, and the groom standing astonished. We've seen this scene in the movie, "The Graduate". What's different from the movie however, is that the main character of this story is not the man who stole the bride, but the foolish groom who had her stolen. Marriage sure has its traumas, doesn't it?

In the company, "Sweet Bridal," not only are all the employees women, but all of them have difficult personalities.

Kanako Terashima (34) who lives with her son Taku (8), was left by her husband for another women after five years of marriage. Although she's the vice-president, Kanako is the one who literally runs the company. To Kanako who loves her job, what bugs and irritates her the most is Toru. All he says is, "the bridal industry makes big money!" The two are nothing but enemies. Nobody knows this, but the pipe organist who played at Toru's wedding a year ago was actually Kanako. Yes, an eyewitness to that disaster.

There's also the mature, calm, and beautiful Misaki Uno (30), a perfectionist in everything she does. She is the only person who is happily together with a boyfriend, within "Sweet Bridal." At a glance, she seems to have no problems at work, nor in her love life, but actually,...

Kurumi Aizawa (22) is like Kanako's younger sister. She wants to get married more than anybody else, and can't wait to wear a wedding dress. But when it comes to her own love life, things don't go that smoothly. She can't help feeling inferior to Miss Perfect, Misaki. Kurumi is struggling to find her own self, both at work and in her love life.

Toru feels isolated in this all-female company, so he invites Shuhei Narumi to work for him. Shuhei was Toru's junior in the same photography club at college. Shuehei became a professional photographer at a young age, and worked as an exclusive cameraman for a famous magazine. He must have been through tough times at work, because his friendly and innocent personality from college is now nowhere to be seen. The bridal industry of course, doesn't interest him at all.

Can people who can't even handle their own love lives succeed as wedding planners???

Let's just forget about the men. As for the ladies, even though they have difficult personalities, one thing they have in common is that they all want to "make the wedding a success."

Staying up all night sewing a wedding dress, making the bouquet with painfully chapped fingertips, being yelled at by a restaurant owner, the gospel singers they hire are not only tone deaf but can't dance, the wedding cake collapses, guests get drunk, a bride's father bursts into tears, falling in love with the groom, comforting a bride who has marriage-blue...

Though this business isn't an easy task, all they want to do is "make the wedding a success." Even Toru, who thought wedding receptions were foolish, is touched by their success. Enemies Kanako and Toru, soon learn to respect each other through observing couples having the time of their life. It's not long before the other employees learn to work as a team...

And Toru's wedding trauma...

In this romantic comedy, the story unfolds within a wedding planning company filled with love, laughter, and occasional tears.
Synopsis
In the previous series, Takako Mamiya was an elite lawyer who handled public relations cases. She quit her job at a prestigious law firm to establish her own office. She confidently walked into her new office only to find that her former firm had interfered and taken all her lawyers and staff. They even took away her clients. Takako reluctantly started to handle low-paying divorce cases. Through her cases though, Takako came face to face with "human drama" and matured greatly.

She is now the most sought after lawyer in town. Takako's firm has become well-known, and she handles domestic as well as public relations cases.

One day, Takako takes on a troubling case about compensation and damages. The opposing lawyer is Eri Saeki, an ex-prosecutor who is now an ace divorce lawyer. Eri is persistent and courageous when it comes to law. What is the "truth" the two lawyers discover when their case is over?

Friendly faces working at the Takako Mamiya Law Firm are Daisuke Honda, a college student studying for the bar exam, Toshifumi Yanagida, the only other lawyer in the firm, and Kizaburo Inoue, a paralegal who hasn't passed the bar exam yet, but has rich knowledge of court precedents and shows excellent documentation skills. New faces at the firm include paralegal Tsuyako Komukai and receptionist Aki Ogata who has no interest in law. Adding spice to Takako's private life are Tatsuya Mikami, editor of a popular women's magazine, and Tamotsu Ohba, the owner of the firm's favorite place to unwind after hours.
Review
The Divorce Lawyer Returns

Do you remember this drama? I just added a feature on the original which aired a year ago. I'm sorry it wasn't added a year ago as it should have been. It was never added because I never found the time to take the screenshots and video clip and put the finishing touches on it. Thanks to the fact that it was just re-aired on my Fuji TV carrier recently, I was able to finally finish the feature. It would have been just plain silly writing a review of the second without having even bothered with the first.

As I said in my feature of the original, "rikon bengoshi" is a surprisingly fun and entertaining drama with a quick sense of humor. I recommend it, and this second season looks like it will be as good as the original, if not better. Mamiya has now become a well-known and respected lawyer and has earned herself the title of "handsome woman", which I guess has connotations of being strong and not very lady-like, but still attractive. I think the word "handsome" describes her quite well.

The type of episodes you'll see this time around will be very similar to those in the original, but the biggest change this time is the addition of a rival. Saeki Eri is another female lawyer in Tokyo who will take any case for money whether she trusts her clients or not. She also has the personal goal of beating Mamiya. It looks as if she will be the opponent lawyer in every episode, which is a little unlikely and strange, but gives the drama another regular character to develop.

You'll also notice that Mimura isn't in this drama anymore, and she has been replaced by a ditzy secretary and Toda Keiko who plays an old friend of Mamiya's who tries to aid Mamiya's romantic life (which has long been non-existent). I kind of liked what Mimura added to the dry humor of the show, but I guess this will work too.

If you enjoyed the original, then this is for you. Those who missed the original shouldn't have much trouble jumping in at any point since there really isn't much continuity to the very episodic structure of the story. I like it. In fact, I've really grown to love this drama and its characters. Check it out.
Synopsis
Takako Mamiya is a lawyer who quits her job at a prestigious law firm, and establishes her own office. She confidently sets out to build her business, but soon her former firm is putting up obstacles and interfering, causing Takako's employees and clients to drift away. She finally puts together a new staff consisting of a college student who knows little about the law, a girl who applied for the job in hopes of meeting a rich guy, a hard-nosed lawyer, and a paralegal who hasn't passed the bar exam yet.

Takako reluctantly handles divorce cases with her incompetent crew. For an elite lawyer like her, divorce cases are the most boring and unrewarding cases that exist. Through clashing with her employees and clients, Takako soon becomes a very mature and tough lawyer.

"Divorce Lawyer" also tells the story of how difficult it is to judge love and relationships in legal terms.
