Synopsis
A romantic comedy about women in their 30's

For everyone who still remembers "Suteki na Kataomoi," "Tokyo Love Story," "101st Proposal," prepare yourselves for even more of those same touching moments again.

Breaking the tradition of the main character for a Monday night drama being a woman in her 20's, Esumi Makiko stars as Kyoko Asaoka, a 32-year-old heart surgeon working at a hospital in Tokyo. Men tend to shy away from the tall, well-educated and well-paid Kyoko because they see her as a woman that can do things on her own. The truth of the matter is that Kyoko is just unlucky in love. She is also old-fashioned, and wants to fall in love just like anyone else, but has a hard time showing her real self to men. Fuji TV
Review
A Love Merry-Go-Round

This is the romance drama for all romance drama enthusiasts. Esumi Makiko plays the intelligent and classy doctor Asoaka Kyoko, who because of studies and work has not had much time for love. In fact, she has not once had a boyfriend and she has already turned thirty. Her good friend, Mariko (Yonekura Ryoko) encourages Kyoko not to give up and has her go to St. Valentine. There, they meet an odd woman who points at Kyoko saying ominously, "Next year you will be married to a man who will tell you everything."

However, as time passes Kyoko becomes more and more involved in her work and finally gives up on love. However, when she does so, not one but two men come into her life - Suga Eiichiro (Fujiki Naohito) and Yabuki Mamoru (Oshio Manabu).

Esumi Makiko does a stunning portrayal as Asaoka Kyoko, someone who is serious in both love and work. She had great chemistry with all the male leads, especially Fujiki Naohito. The story flowed seamlessly and the episodes tended to always end with a cliffhanger, making you want to continue on.

You will definitely be humming "Kiss of Love" by Hirai Ken after watching just a few episodes.

Rating: 9/10

Review
A Love Merry-Go-Round

This is the romance drama for all romance drama lovers. Esumi Makiko plays the intelligent and classy doctor Asoaka Kyoko, who because of studies and work has not had much time for love. In fact, she has not once had a boyfriend and she has already turned thirty. Her good friend, Mariko Yonekura Ryoko encourages Kyoko not to give up and has her go to St. Valentine. There, they meet an odd woman who points at Kyoko saying ominously, "Next year you will be married to a man who will tell you everything."

However, as time passes Kyoko becomes more and more involved in her work and finally gives up on love. However, when she does so, not one but two men come into her life - Suga Eiichiro Fujiki Naohito and Yabuki Mamoru Oshio Manabu.

Synopsis
Hirosue Ryoko plays a pouty, blind girl with a chip on her shoulder (chips and grudges are in this quarter), whose very wealthy father has just died and left her his estate. Her mother left him years ago, taking her older brother, but leaving her behind. The sweet, but none-too-sharp brother, Reiji, writes her for years but the housekeeper throws the letters away. Now it turns out that this sweet Reiji (let's call him Reiji I), has gone to work as a cook for another guy named Reiji (Reiji II played by Watabe Atsuro), the cold-hearted head of a very successful Kabukicho host club. The girls all love him, but all he loves is his bankbook. Reiji II's life goes well until one day a rich executive's wife, who has been providing him with millions, turns out to be a poor bank clerk who has embezzled all the cash from her employer. Reiji II did not know this, but the police do not believe him and he heads off to serve six months as an accessory to the crime. The distraught, sweet Reiji I steps into the street to protest as Reiji II is driven off to jail, gets hit by a motorcycle and dies. Six months later, Reiji II returns to find that the world of Kabukicho has turned against him and, during his incarceration, he has somehow run up a huge debt to the district's worst loan shark. As he prepares to be eaten alive by the nasty loan sharks, a private detective shows up looking for Reiji I, so he can reunite him with his long-lost sister. Somebody gets Reiji I and II confused, but Reiji II does a quick take on the situation. Seeing this as his only hope of swimming out of shark-infested waters, he takes it. He steals the identity of the other Reiji and heads off for a reunion with his newfound "sister." Bitter and angry about something as yet undisclosed, she is in no mood to be won over and slashes him on the cheek with her white cane. End of episode one. And yes, that was the best offering of the week.
Review
Don't Miss It

A wonderfully dark and moving series with an interesting premise. Hirosue Ryoko once again works her magic and pulls off a very convincing part as Ako, a blind girl whose father recently died. Because of her situation, a man named Reiji (Watabe Atsuro) takes advantage of the fact that she is rich and blind and pretends to be her brother whose name also happens to be Reiji.

As the series progresses, you see the two of them grow closer to one another and how much Reiji changes from his once cold-hearted and money loving self to a more considerate and caring person. The change just seemed very natural and well acted out.

One of the best features of this drama is the talented acting displayed by both the leads and the supporting cast. Their characters were complicated and were full of depth. Because so much thought was put into each person - you will find that you end up caring for all of them - from Hirosue's strength and determination to become more independent even though she's blind and Watabe's slow change in his feelings towards her. This is definitely one drama that shouldn't be missed.
Honami plays a newscaster, a tough pro who is capable of stonily reporting even her own husband's death in an traffic accident on air. The plot revolves around Honami's relationship with her late husband's teenage son who she is forced to take in. The show stars popular Kyozo Nagatsuka as the boy's lawyer and her romantic interest. The series also includes a lot of behind-the-scenes newsroom action and depicts the rivalry between the show's director and producer, who are locked in a constant debate over whether new and variety are, or should be, one and the same.
Duncan

Review
Honami Does It Again

Suzuki Honami triumphs again, this time playing the independent and goal-driven Aso-san, the anchor of Channel 2 News. The series starts off with a bang, the tragic death of her husband and his ex-wife the day after their marriage and all of a sudden she has to deal with taking care of her husband's fifteen year old son, Ryu, played by Takizawa Hideaki.

The feelings and emotions portrayed by Suzuki Honami were sincere and more realistic, being a single person and being such a career-oriented woman, she didn't want to take the boy in and was rather vociferous about it, too. Takizawa Hideaki in the meantime was a bit of a loner and often grated on Aso's nerves. However, as the series progresses, their relationship blossoms and the audience can really sense a change between them. It just seemed very natural and not forced like some other dramas that I've seen. Like some other reviewer, I also felt that Ryu had some sort of feelings for Aso. They just had great chemistry together! (Maybe that's one of the reasons why Takky was later cast in "Majo no Jouken")

The side characters really helped contribute to the overall plot and feeling of the drama. The lawyer (the perfect man) often added comic relief to the serious moments. The scheming Fujiwara Norika made a great antagonist and it was understandable since she also wanted to become an anchor. Konno's character was also wonderfully executed, it was hard to make out the man's feelings and motives with his one expression face.

I've only seen one another news drama, Bijo ka Yajuu, and I thought that this one surpassed that one by far. I definitely recommend watching this for both fans of Suzuki Honami and Takizawa Hideaki. The ending was also exceptional.
Synopsis
Review
This drama continues off from where the special that aired early this year, 2005, ended. It's about a yakuza member, Toraji (Nagase Tomoya) who has to collect payments from a man whose son used the money to open an eclectic clothing store. However, Toraji discovers rakugo through the man who later teaches him the art. The situations between the characters were hilarious and the comedy was very refreshing. I really enjoyed how the director was able to create a seamless transitioning between the rakugo story-telling - the re-enactment of thestory itself - and then the current drama happenings. It was very innovative and impressive to say the least. Each episode focuses on a different rakugo story and it was surprising that because of this factor, the series still didn't seem episodic, but still proceeded at a nice pace.

The main characters, Toraji played by Nagase Tomoya and Ryu played by Okada Junichi are both memorable and funny. They each had a specific character type and firmly stuck to it throughout the drama. The other actors also did a wonderful job. The dialogue in this drama was refreshing and witty. Overall, a great drama!
This is a refreshing, yet heartfelt comedy about the 4 very unique personalities that work until the wee hours of the night at the small confectionary. An episodic series revolving around "Antique": the 4 people who work there and the customers that often frequent the confectionary. ==Synopsis==

Synopsis 1
Kyoichi (Takizawa Hideaki), a college student of architecture, catches Surumi (Hasegawa Kyoko) sneaking into his apartment and she tells him it's for watching across the street into the apartment of her old lover, who left her to engage someone else. The guy in question is Mr. Honda (Ogata Naoto), who is an elite graduate of the architecture faculty Kyoichi studies at! "Kyon", as Surumi affectionately calls him, is suddenly bogged down with the interference of many people, including Surumi, Mr. Honda and his interior-designing girlfriend Rie (Konishi); his college classmates, best buddy Takashi (Koizumi), and former sweetheart Keiko (Shimatani); the teacher Prof. Tatebayashi (Shiga), the part-time-job boss (Morimoto) and the nosy neighbors (Maya, Shimada, Kosakai). Matsuo plays the owner of the store Surumi works at.

Synopsis 2
Kyoichi Suzuki is an average college student in his junior year. Although he's not in one of the top universities, he's satisfied with his college life studying architecture. Kyoichi left home and is finally on his own, living in a beat-up apartment in Tokyo. However, this apartment building is home to some out-of-the-ordinary residents, who are always bugging Kyoichi. His next-door neighbor hits Kyoichi up for a loan when he finds out that Kyoichi just got paid. His other next- door neighbor who works at a nightclub, always calls Kyoichi, demanding him to come pick her up, because she's so drunk. Other than that, Kyoichi is satisfied with his normal life, until he meets a girl one day...

Kyoichi comes home from his part-time job as a night-time security guard. He returns to his room to find a girl sleeping on his bed-a girl he has never seen before. She looks a bit older than Kyoichi, and is quite beautiful. Kyoichi can't believe his eyes.

Kyoichi closes the door, and goes outside to the entrance of the apartment, to make sure he's in the right apartment and room. There's no mistake. He returns inside...but the girl is gone. There's nobody in his room. Was it just his imagination? Was he hallucinating? Kyoichi can't understand what just happened.

Later, he discovers that something is missing from his grocery bag-the Chinese noodles he was looking forward to eating are gone...

This is how Kyoichi first meets Surumi Kataoka. After they meet, Surumi continues living in Kyoichi's room.

She points to an apartment visible from Kyoichi's room, and says that the guy living there dumped her for another girl. Surumi says that she's waiting to check out the girl she was dumped for. Kyoichi doesn't know if he ought to believe her or not.

All Kyoichi knows is that while Surumi is such a charming girl, the expression on her face is sad at times.

Kyoichi is not that disappointed about sharing his room with a cute girl. He starts to think that this lifestyle may go on forever, until one day, Surumi suddenly disappears-just like the day she suddenly appeared. All she leaves for Kyoichi are unanswered questions.
Synopsis
This story is about four men who work in a confectionary. Tachibana Keiichiro (Shiina Kippei) is the owner; Ono Yusuke (Fujiki Naohito) is the superb baker that has a mysterious and mesmerizing aura; Kage (Abe Hiroshi) is the waiter and close bodyguard of Tachibana; and last but not least is Kanda Eiji (Takizawa Hideaki), the ex-boxer who loves cake so much that he becomes a waiter at 'Antique'. This is a refreshing, yet heartfelt comedy about the 4 very unique personalities that work until the wee hours of the night at the small confectionary. The series follows the romance, family life, and most importantly friendship that these 4 men from different generations experience.

This is a confectionery with a "flavor" not like most. Located in the middle of an ordinary residential area, "Antique" stays open until 2 a.m. Every single thing in the shop is antique, in fact even the sherry glasses that water comes in look like they would cost 50,000 yen. On top of this, all the sweets that are sold are unbelievably delicious. The thing that is most peculiar about "Antique" though is that all 4 of the men that work here are very handsome, and each has an interesting past. Those that frequent the store also have a story to tell.
Review
An episodic series revolving around "Antique": the 4 people who work there and the customers that often frequent the confectionary. Although the series lacks much continuity since each episode can stand alone by itself, the comedy makes up for it - from the "love" glances between Shiina Kippei and Fujiki Naohito, the cake gorging of Takizawa Hideaki, and the randomness of the narrator's notes, this series should definitely not be missed. Memorable acting on all the main actors' parts.
Synopsis
Daigo has survived six months of hard training to become a firefighter. Right after his graduation ceremony, he rushes to Medaka-ga-oka High School, because he can't wait to tell Shizuka, his former homeroom teacher, that he has finally become a firefighter.

It was Shizuka who recommended that Daigo become a firefighter. When Daigo was still small, he was miraculously rescued from a disastrous fire. Since then, it had always been Daigo's dream to become a firefighter. However, in high school, he had forgotten all about his dream and had no idea of what he wanted to be when he grew up. That was when Shizuka reminded Daigo of his dream.

Daigo gets assigned to Medaka-ga-oka Fire Department, which is located in his hometown. He heads to work with great expectations, but what Daigo sees is far from what he had in mind. The Fire Chief Hajime Gomi, and the rest of the crew seem to be far too undisciplined for firefighters.

As a rookie firefighter, Daigo gets dispatched to put out fires at schools, houses, and save cats stuck on roofs. Working with Hajime and others, Daigo acquires the knowledge and skills necessary for the job. He also learns about teamwork and how difficult it is to save a person's life. Daigo's colleagues are the rookie Shiro, fire truck driver Mahiru, Mitsuru, Hikosuke, Hiroshi, and paramedic Jun. At first, Daigo acts alone without thinking, and is seen as a trouble-maker. However, his instincts as a firefighter are exceptionally sharp, and he soon gains the recognition of his fellow firefighters.

Fire is not the only thing challenging Daigo in this story. While he still has feelings for his first love Shizuka, Mahiru and Jun are also on his mind. Daigo's rival Shiro seems to be after these women too...
The Heat is on for Yamada Takayuki

Remember when you were in elementary school and you were asked what you wanted to be when you grow up, and half the boys in the class said they wanted to be a firefighter? "FIRE BOYS megumi no Daigo" is the story of one boy, named Daigo, who kept that dream all the way through high school and immediately joined the local fire brigade after graduation. This drama will show his struggles to become a competent firefighter and to fit in as a worthy member of the "megumi", the local fire brigade.

Daigo begins his journey with an inner childlike excitement that is outwardly manifested as a military-like demeanor and confidence. When he actually meets the members of the megumi, however, he is disappointed by their sloppiness and laid-back attitude. He is especially disappointed by the chief, who tells him that the megumi is known as an easy brigade to work in, since fires rarely ever occur in the area.

Slightly daunted, but not ready to give up, Daigo begins his training with the megumi. He quickly develops a rivalry with Amakasu Shirou who is the only male firefighter close to Daigo in age. Shirou is also ordered to look after Daigo and keep him out of trouble, which is disagreeable to both Daigo and Shirou. Daigo is taken a bit by Jun (played by Mimura, the fresh face from "Beginner" last season). He experiences a lot of verbal friction with Mahiru (Uchiyama Rina), but there seems to be a lot of attraction there, especially Mahiru's toward Daigo. Overall, Daigo doesn't really feel like a member of the megumi yet, and he even requests to be transferred to a different brigade once in the first episode. Obviously his relationship with the megumi will undergo a gradual change over the course of the series.

Daigo's initial confidence in his fire fighting abilities is quickly challenged when he finds himself in action on two separate occasions in the first episode. Apparently, Daigo has trouble keeping himself calm when placed in dangerous situations, and he sends himself into panic attacks at times when his full concentration and alertness are vital. Maybe he wasn't cut out to be a firefighter after all. He may have to seriously consider a career change soon if he can't control his anxieties - that is, if he doesn't get discharged from his duties for incompetence first.

This drama might be sort of a pseudo-sequel to the Water Boys drama which aired last summer since both titles have "BOYS" in them and star Yamada Takayuki. The two dramas don't have much in common other than that however. In Water Boys the main characters really were all boys, whereas in "FIRE BOYS" most of the megumi are actually adults.

This J-Fan reviewer really enjoyed the first episode of this drama. The previews didn't get me very excited, and I thought it looked kind of stupid, but now I've seen the light. This drama has a great cast, romance, human drama, and above all - action, action, ACTION! I don't think I've seen a drama that has this much action before. They must have spent some good money in the special effects department too. Obviously, it isn't exactly theatrical quality, but it's pretty darn good for a weekly TV drama. This drama not only has the usual cast of zany and/or attractive characters who go through their weekly struggles following the standard J-drama format, but it also sends them through burning buildings too. "FIRE BOYS" is great!
And what's this? Riding high on the wave of his Water Boys popularity,
Yamada Takayuki will be back in January to star in Fire Boys (Tuesdays at 9
p.m. on the Fuji network). The series will chronicle the training of a young
firefighter.
Surprisingly good family drama
Even Fire Boys was not as bad as expected, although it will be of sustained interest only to those who have never seen a "konjo" drama before. This genre has been absent for a few seasons, but it features a dedicated young person displaying fighting spirit, grit, determination and tenacity as they persevere to overcome all sorts of adversity and hazing in pursuit of their goal.

In this case, Daigo Asahina Yamada Takayuki, recently of Water Boys is initiated into the world of firefighting and struggles to achieve his long-cherished dream of becoming a top-rank firefighter. There is some interesting background info on the profession here such as the fact that women are not allowed to carry loads of more than 30 kilograms nor can they go into burning buildings as Daigo does in his first professional firefighting venture. Supposedly, real fires were set for these scenes but
they were very well-controlled and they may dangerously mislead the public.
If anyone thinks they could scamper through the flames for as long as Daigo
did in episode one without severe injury, they are in for big trouble. But if you have never seen a konjo drama, Fire Boys will be a good introduction
to the genre.
Though he looks barely strong enough to lift a garden hose, much less a fire
hose, idol Yamada Takayuki stars as Daigo in the new action series,
"Fireboys," about a group of firefighting recruits. The producers promise
lots of exciting action scenes that use real fire, not special effects. In
the series' second episode (Fuji, Tuesday, 9 p.m.), Daigo is asked by his
friend Jun to help her in the ambulance section for a day. During his
training period, Daigo did exceptionally well in the emergency medical
activities, but the real thing tests his abilities almost to breaking point.
It is the most difficult and exhausting job he has ever performed. He is
especially impressed with Jun, who does this type of work every day as an
ambulance attendant. She wants to be a paramedic, though, which is even more
grueling.
Synopsis
Tachibana, the owner of a confectionery that likes hot-spicy food more than cakes; Ono, the superb party chef that has a mysterious aura, and Eiji, the ex-boxer who loves cakes that now works at Antique. This is a refreshing, yet heartfelt comedy about the 3 very unique personalities (more than that, all 3 are good looking!), that work until the wee hours of the night at a small confectionery called "Antique." The story follows the romance, family life and friendship that these 3 men from different generations experience.

A confectionery with a "flavor" not like most. The thing that is most peculiar about "Antique" though is that all 3 of the men that work here are very handsome, and each has an interesting past. Those that frequent the store all are also...
