Biography
The breezey 1997 drama series Beach Boys brought to light two male stars who have remained popular since: Takenouchi Yutaka and Sorimachi Takashi. While Takenouchi came across as a quieter, sensitive type, Sorimachi was more of a brash jokey clown. This image matched that of the hero of the hit manga Great Teacher Onizuka, who Sorimachi brought to life on the screen in a popular TV drama series and subsequent movie.

GTO was based on solid economic principles - the original manga was a best-seller, the show's male and female leads (Matsushima Nanako - later to become his wife, was the female half) were highly marketable up-and-coming stars and the series touched on a lot of the raw nerves exposed by recent problems in the eductional system and with young Japanese in general. Sorimachi Takashi turned out to be perfect for the role, and pulled off one of his best performances.

Born Noguchi Takashi in Saitama Prefecture, his ambitions led him to the famous Johnny's Jimusho agency, home of SMAP. Like SMAP, he found himself in the late '80s as a backing dancer to the idol boy-band of the day, the roller-skating Hikaru Genji. He later changed direction and moved into modeling. He graced popular magazine covers, appeared in Benetton ads and did catwalk shows in Tokyo and Europe.

He made his TV debut at the age of 21 and gradually landed bigger roles. His first starring role was in Virgin Road in early 1997 but Beach Boys was his big break. He released an eponymous album of original music the same year. In February 2001, Sorimachi married his GTO co-star Matsushima and inevitably they were dubbed the Heisei Big Couple (the Heisei Era being from 1989).
Synopsis
Upon getting thrown out of his girlfriend Fujiko's apartment, Hiromi (Sorimachi) decides to head for the ocean. En route, he crosses paths with Kaito (Takenouchi), an elite employee of a large multinational trading company in Tokyo who is running away from his problems at work after losing a key client. The two stumble into a quiet B&B on the beach run by the aging surfer Masaru and his high-school-aged granddaughter Makoto. Hiromi immediately applies to work there for the summer, and Kaito is forced to join him after he loses his wallet. The two share a room, with Hiromi trying to make friends, and Kaito at first resisting, unimpressed by Hiromi's devil-may-care attitude. Slowly over the ensuing episodes, Kaito becomes more and more at home in this sleepy rural town, and begins to wonder if he should give up his pursuit of success in the big city, and try to relax, and enjoy himself more. When he returns to Tokyo to finish his work, Hiromi and Makoto come to lure him back, but when he returns to the B&B, his boss and girlfriend Sakura likewise come looking for him.
