Shao Xue, Zheng Sunian, Zhang Qi, Lin Shiyin, and Wu Huan are children of conservators working to preserve cultural relics in the Forbidden City. Growing up in the same neighborhood, their families experience the changes in life together as the children grow and eventually separate after high school. Throughout the years that follow, the friends follow the paths they set for themselves and discover life lessons and new relationships along the way; however, their relationship stays strong despite their distance.

Shao Xue, Zheng Sunian and Zhang Qi are children of craftsman working to preserve the Forbidden City, and grew up in the same hutong.  They experience SARS and the death of their parents together, thus forming a deep bond. However eventually, they eventually separate due to differing paths. Inspired by her mother, Shao Xue refuses to give up on her limitless future for love, and decides to leave her hometown. On the other hand, Zheng Sunian chose to inherit his mother's expertise and became a conservator, gaining inspiration and energy from the cultural relics. Zhang Qi, due to his talent for Mathematics, received direct admission to university. Many years later, Shao Xue and Zheng Sunian reunite again, and the seed of feelings planted during their youth began to blossom.
