geoffropuff says: probably shouldn't miss it
This show is a very lighthearted, fun drama to watch. I, personally, love kids, so this show was definitely my cup of tea. The kids, as well as the adults, did a fine job playing their parts. Yusaku sensei's class gave me the feeling that these students really were a class at a school somewhere.
The casting was done very well for both teachers and students. Kusanagi Tsuyoshi was very believable as the teacher who wanted to make a huge difference in his students' lives. Ishida Yuriko did a fine job acting both as ice queen and gentle teacher. I don't even know where to start when talking about Shinohara Tomoe as the annoying chef in love with Tsuyoshi's character. She was just about the most annoying character that I have come across in all dramas that I have watched. If that's what she was made to be, then I guess the creators did their job. However, there were times when I just cringed because I couldn't stand listening to her talk anymore.
The real heart of this show, though, is the cast of kids. I thought that almost all of these children did an admirable job in filling their role in the class. I especially liked the girl who played Chinatsu (incorrectly named Chika in Jem's fansub). She is very cute, and played the role of "girl in love" very well. There were a few children who didn't get as much screen time as I would have liked, Aoi for example, but it is hard to get all 30 kids ample screen time in a 12 episode show.
This show wasn't without its flaws, though. Due to the show's format, it is very episodic. Also, besides a couple children, once a child has had their moment in the spotlight, he or she moves to the background and is not heard from much again. And really, did they have to say, "Sensei, shiranaino?" 30x every single episode? It got to be a little too repetitive. These flaws aside, if you're looking for something akin to GTO, but not as heavy in the drama department, I would definitely recommend this show to you.
