Synopsis

It is the story of a town which based its economy on the gold mines. During the Sino-Japanese war the people fought to protect their gold from the invading Japanese forces. The story revolves around two men, Lu Jianshan (Shao Bing) and Guo Lin (Victor Huang). The first is a Communist and the sore in his father's eye, the second is adopted and therefore always second to the father's eyes. That is why he wants to prove himself to the father and everyone else. Meng Ximei (Wang Li Ke) is angaged to Lu Jianshan and their wedding day she gives him as dowry an enormous gold nugget from the mines. Lu Jianshan marries her but abandons her on their wedding night to join the communist fighters. She stays in her father in law's house where Guo lin falls in love with her. Then the war breaks out and the terrible events that follow will change everyone's lives. For the better or worse, we will see.
