Synopsis
Bitter is the appropriate adjective for all the characters in Nyokei Kazoku. The story is lead by 35-year Yajima Fujiyo, the eldest daughter of a wealthy matrilineal family. The Yajima family name has been carried over for five generations through the female side. Yoshizo married into the Yajima family. When his wife passed away, he retained a brother-in-law status within the family. So that he wouldn't lose control of his inheritence, he was not allowed to re-marry, which is why he instead chose to have a mistress (Fumino) instead.
