Inoue Mao was a popular U-15 idol several years ago; she was well known for her role as Imai Akane in the drama Kids War. Before that, she had parts in several other dramas from the age of five, but it wasn't until the debut of Kids War in 1999 that she was actually noticed. It was during that time that Japanese audiences started paying more attention to the young actress. In 2005, Mao was cast as the star of the hit drama, [[Hana Yori Dango]] on TBS. Mao played Tsukushi Makino, a lower middle-class girl who is trying to survive unnoticed in an elite high school full of playboys and rich snobs. In [[Hana Yori Dango]], Mao acted alongside [[Matsumoto Jun]] of Arashi who starred as Domyouji Tsukasa and [[Oguri Shun]] who starred as Hanazawa Rui.
