Synopsis

The story begins in the 1930s, spanning over 70 years till the modern day between several generations. Ju Xiang is born into a big Peranakan family where her mother is a mistress. Although Ju Xiang became deaf-mute due to a childhood illness, she is kind, beautiful, and talented. Due to their status in the Huang family, Ju Xiang and her mother were treated as servants. Running away from her arranged marriage, she gets rescued by Yamamoto Yousuke, and the two marry to have a daughter, Yue Niang.

After World War II, Yue Niang loses her parents, seeks refuge with the Huang family, and picks up her mother's talent in cooking and embroidery. Yue Niang then leads the life of her mother – always discriminated against, beaten up, and tortured. However, Yue Niang decides to choose her path in life. She begins learning how to run a business, overcoming the odds, and saving her declining family business.
