Series Synopsis
The 66th NHK Asadora Drama is Sakura. Settings include Honolulu, Hawaii (USA), Takayama, Gifu, and Tokyo. The story is about a recent college graduate, Matsushita Sakura (Elizabeth), a fourth-generation Japanese American woman born and raised in Hawaii. Sakura's haole boyfriend, Roby, gets a job in New York and plans to take Sakura with him. Sakura is unhappy about the possible move. Later, during a family meeting, Sakura breaks the news to everyone that she'll be taking on a temporary one-year teaching job in Japan, teaching English at an all-boys middle school, in order to examine her family roots. Roby is shocked to hear the news, and immediately asks Sakura to marry him. Although she does accept the proposal, Roby and Sakura agree to delay their wedding for one year until she comes back to Hawaii. Sakura will be staying with her maternal grandparents. However, there is friction between Sakura's mom and grandfather because her mom married a Japanese-Hawaiian. How will things go for Sakura in Japan? Will she get along with her grandfather? Will she lose her heart to a Japanese man? Will she come back to Hawaii? --- written by groink
