Story

Song Yan and Xu Qin are star-crossed lovers. They met during their high school days and dated but Xu Qin is part of the affluential Meng Family and didn't approve of their relationship. Xu Qin's parents are very controlling, especially her foster mother. Experiencing pressure from Xu Qin's family, the young couple parted ways through a misunderstanding and Song Yan resented Xu Qin but also missed her. In between the 10 years apart, Song Yan joined the military and eventually became a fireman. Whereas Xu Qin devoted herself into medical studies to become a doctor in hopes to create her own credibility and respect with her family. Eventually, Xu Qin returned home and began practicing emergency medicine, it was while helping a rescued patient that the both of them would see each other again.

Song Yan is a handsome man with many women interested in him as well as Xu Qin with male suitors. However, both never bothered to date anyone else and always thought about each other. Xu Qin wanted to repair relations with Song Yan but he was still resentful and defensive. As much as Song Yan missed Xu Qin, he was wary of her and the Meng Family. As much as Song Yan avoided Xu Qin, both would find themselves in situations often seeing each other, stirring romantic feelings. Eventually, Song Yan learned about Xu Qin's reasons for leaving him and he started to be nicer to Xu Qin. After Song Yan nearly died from a major injury, it stirred both their feelings enough for them reciprocate each other's romantic feelings and restarted their relationship.

The Meng Family wasn't happy about Xu Qin's decision and her mother (Fu Wen Ying) especially was against it. Wen Ying feels Song Yan is not worthy of her daughter and below the Meng's social status. However, Xu Qin fought her family tooth and nail about this, so much that she was willing to give up her condo, car, and many of her belongings to be with Song Yan. Wen Ying is convinced Xu Qin is making a fatal mistake and Song Yan will eventually reveal his true nature to take advantage of her. Without a home, Xu Qin moved in with Song Yan and his family's home. Living an affluent life, she never had the troubles of a commoner, but willing to adapt to be with Song Yan; Wen Ying continues to pressure Xu Qin to leave Song Yan for a better life.

Their relationship would be tested on Song Yan's career as a fireman. Xu Qin started to experience anxiety over Song Yan's job as he faces danger all the time. To lessen her worries, he told her that he's not heavily involved in the frontlines, but would later end up in the ER. He nearly died from chemical poisoning and Xu Qin had to resuscitate him. To lessen her worries, he assured her to be more careful in the future. Chinese New Year came and Xu Qin had mixed feelings about visiting family; Song Yan encouraged her to go see them. Unfortunately, Wen Ying gave her the cold shoulder and never welcomed Song Yan into their home, freezing him in the cold. Outraged that Wen Ying can be so cruel, Xu Qin abandoned family celebrations to be with Song Yan. Song Yan's and Xu Qin's life will be greatly challenged after a major incident involving the Meng Family.

The Goukun Group is led by Xu Qin's father, Chairman Gu. A major fire occurred on a new Goukun Group-owned build and De Peng (a co-worker of Song Yan) was killed because of it. Wen Ying immediately sent her men to do damage control, from pressuring victims to sign non-disclosure agreements with payouts to using their influence to twist the truth over the incident. However, it was Song Yan's report that the building used sub-standard material got Chairman Gu detained for investigation. The Goukun Group went to work by covering their tracks. They replaced the substandard building materials with the good ones and cleaned up any incriminating evidence at the crime scene. They then dropped money on Song Yan's home and spread news that he's taking bribes, causing him to be suspended, pending an internal investigation.

Although Wen Ying despises Song Yan, she believed in his report and discovered two managers at fault for the fire. The police discovered the hidden substandard materials and arrested Zhao and Wang for firing illegal fireworks and using substandard parts. With the truth uncovered, Song Yan's investigation was praised for its truthfulness and accusations of him taking bribes was cleared. Chairman Gu was cleared of any wrongdoing, but Wen Ying continues to denounce Song Yan and blames him for their family troubles. Afterwards, Song Yan was offered a new position: to command a new special operations fire team in Shilitai. Unfortunately, Xu Qin didn't react well to his decision. Song Yan always defaulted to handling things on his own and didn't want Xu Qin to be burdened by his experiences and choices; he chose to not tell her many things and she only found out later. Tired of feeling excluded and unable to get an explanation, she took off and unwilling to come back home until she got a proper explanation.

While Song Yan tried to convince Xu Qin to come back home, he never explained the reasons for joining the military, his bullet wound, and ending up as a fireman. Song Yan's sister eventually told her the truth, that he joined the military academy to stand out and hope to be qualified to be with Xu Qin. However, his physical examination didn't pass and he was disqualified. Song Yan's father believed it was due to Wen Ying's influence that got him removed. Afterwards, he joined the military in the Border Special Forces but got injured during a mission. Unfortunately, he was later kicked out of the army because of a complaint and it was also suspected of Wen Ying's foul play. Xu Qin realized Song Yan didn't want to say anything as it would break her heart because of her family; realizing how far her mother has messed with Song Yan's life devastated Xu Qin.

Xu Qin returned home to confront Wen Ying over her misdeeds, but Wen Ying continues to believe she has done nothing wrong. Xu Qin warned Wen Ying to never harm Song Yan ever again. As Xu Qin walked away, she smashed the family photo. Xu Qin's elder brother, Yan Chen, heard everything upstairs and also walked away from the family as well. Wen Ying's husband had to point out that all her actions has shattered their family. However, things didn't remain broken too long.

Yan Chen has been friendly with Ye Zi, she's a friend of Zhao Miao (Song Yan's cousin). Ye Zi has feelings for Yan Chen but he only loved Xu Qin. When Ye Zi went to see him, Yan Chen spoke some cruel words to say she's another person after an arrangement with him. So enraged and hurt for what he said, she staged a sexual assault crime to frame Yan Chen. When Yan Chen woke up, he realized Ye Zi is setting him up and even dared her to call the police to see how far things will go. Wen Ying quickly tried to find a means to exonerate her son. It was later discovered that Zhao Miao had evidence that can prove Yan Chen's innocence, however, Zhao Miao wasn't motivated to help the Meng family as they messed with their family for so long. Wen Ying and her husband visited Zhao Miao and asked her to name her price. Zhao Miao too the opportunity to remind Wen Ying of her misdeeds and feel the poetic irony of what she's going through over what Song Yan experienced. Zhao Miao demanded Wen Ying to at least kneel like her father did to save Song Yan and she painfully complied. Ultimately Zhao Miao was proved Yan Chen's innocence and revealed Ye Zi's false accusations. Ye Zi was jailed for falsifying a crime and Yan Chen was freed. Yan Chen never harbored any ill feelings for Ye Zi and even offered to help her, but she was too enraged to listen to him.

Some time has passed and Chairman Gu decided to visit her daughter and Song Yan's family. Because Gu has never did anything directly towards Song Yan's family, they welcomed him to eat together. Gu was impressed with the warm feelings he got from the family and seeing how happy Xu Qin is. Later on, Yan Chen would tell Xu Qin that he intends to work for the Goukun Group. Even though he resents his family, he still loves them and felt it was time to take more responsibilities to ease their aging parents. During a massive storm, several sections of the city was flooded with water and Wen Ying was trapped in her car. Despite all the suffering Wen Ying has caused Song Yan, he still saved her. Afterwards, Xu Qin and Song Yan got engaged and Wen Ying no longer objected the wedding. The two would happily get married and start a new chapter in their new home.
