Zenibana 2

Hey Groink, I'm planning on making a page for Zenibana 2 DX Goukaban... Well not really planning, I already have everything ready I just need to paste it. Anyway, I'm not sure whether I should make a complete new page or add a new section on the existing Zenibana page. Episode Titles Written in Japanese

ive noticed that people keep on putting the drama episode titles in japanese. since this is an English-language based wiki, i hope that they should have at least put the titles in romaji instead. can we make this a policy that editors should always include the romaji translation or better, the english translation. --Marienella 02:47, 3 May 2007

I do see your point. Here's how I look at it regarding sub-titles:

1. Start off with the kana. If the editor can't convert, then leave it as-is.
2. If can, replace the kana with romaji.
3. If can translate to English, replace the kana/romaji with English sub-title.

in my opinion, if they cant translate, then just dont put the episode titles. for every new japanese dramas, there is a corresponding link to its japanese wiki entry, so the japanese episode titles are already available in that wiki. untranslated entries just mess up an article and it does not benefit the mostly English-speaking users of the Drama Wiki. --Marienella 23:55, 3 May 2007

I like to have the Japanese episode title there. They often get translated after a while. And we also have the drama title in Japanese so why not leave both? Isn't it harder to translate if the kana get replaced by romaji when you can't go directly to English? --Ina 00:44, 4 May 2007 (CDT)

What I do not like is having all three - kana, romaji AND English. Because of the limitations of wiki, there's just simply no way to make the three presentable without making a mess of things. So for me, I'd prefer to have either kana alone, kana and English, or English. In my edits, I choose to have the kana only at first. And then when I see the English translation (from either NGN or NHK/MTI), then I replace the kana with the English. Just as a side note for everyone, this doesn't concern the series title; we still prefer to keep all Japanese show titles romaji/kana. Groink 00:51, 4 May 2007 (CDT)

No, they dont get translated unless the drama is popular or is maintained by an editor like Groink, the people who put them in there are not even consistently putting all the titles, just check the entries for the past seasons. my point is, this is an English based wiki, unless people will be consistent in providing the English translation for the japanese titles, then just dont put the untranslated titles. pls remember that most people who read the Drama Wiki are not proficient in Japanese, so putting up japanese words just mess up an article. im also advocating this for consistency in article guidelines. No, I strongly disagree. There is no point in removing Japanese episode titles, as these are the actual titles of the episodes. No translation is perfect and lots of translations just plain suck. I want to see the original Japanese; if I'm feeling ambitious, I will offer up a translation, if I believe it possible for me to do a title justice in the form of a translation. Whether anyone translates or not, whether this is a Japanese wiki or an English wiki, we are discussing Japanese dramas and they have Japanese titles. This wiki is intended as a source of accurate information, and it is therefore both presumptuous and potentially harmful to assume English translations to be interchangable with the original Japanese titles.

Additionally, the Japanese/English combination is not an eyesore; it is simply natural. Romaji is, if you will pardon my saying so, a bad idea. It is ugly and would serve little purpose here.

One thing I want to point out here is that there is a difference between a title and the subtitle. Most English-speaking Japanese drama fans will refer to a series by its Japanese name, so it is natural that we use romaji for titles. As for subtitles, we feel that an English translation is more appropriate because; because very little of the fan population even care about the subtitle of an episode, the idea that leaving a subtitle in kana is really irrelevant for the purpose of DramaWiki. Again, what I do NOT want to see is all three: kana, romaji AND English translation. Kana/English and Kana/romaji combinations are preferred. And like I mentioned earlier, leave the kana ONLY if someone has the intention of translating to English. Regarding translations, whether you like it or not, most people who frequent DramaWiki must also rely on English subtitles. And we all know that English subtitles aren't that accurate either. So I don't see much ground in your argument regarding the translation of the subtitles to English on DramaWiki. And as for your revert of previous edits to ProDai, if another editor feels you're in the wrong, he has the right to revert your reverts. So don't let this become an edit war. Just to be sure that there hasn't been a misunderstanding: my issue is with the complete replacement of Japanese titles by English translations (although untranslated Japanese titles are appreciated when I take an interest in old dramas). English translations of episode titles are appropriate, but by no means do they serve as replacements for Japanese titles. Whether or not the majority of DramaWiki users appreciate the original Japanese episode titles (which, after all, take up very little space), the titles' inclusion on a drama's page is immensely appreciated by some, including me. I saw your message, and I feel you spoke too soon.... I would've appreciated it if you had waited a day until I was done with the page to tell me I was abusing the guidelines and that I would be banned next time without a thought to the severity of my crimes (lol).

It's the first page I made, which I'm sure you noticed, and I don't know what the drama wiki logs show, but I've been constantly editing it for the past hour or two to get it as perfect as I could... and I wasn't done with it.

I understand and appreciate the people, like you, who help keep this site nice looking, but I was just surprised at your impulsiveness towards my unfinished page, (which I am still editing at this moment).

The links you gave me were helpful, and thank you for pointing them out, but I see no reason for you to tell me I won't get another chance before being banned since I was still editing as I got your message. But, like I said, I don't know what the wiki logs, (if it even does), and maybe you thought this page was created hours ago. :D

LOL, you're probably wondering why I'm writing this to you at all, and maybe it sounds disrespectful, but I just didn't want to feel upset towards you, who are just doing your job, and this was the only way I could keep from feeling resentful towards you in the future.

Page Edit

Ah, sorry, didn't realize we couldn't put the actor's other work along with their television work. That's a shame, since I know many theatre actors who are in one or two shows, but most of their work is in theatre. I linked to the wikipedia article in the external links so people can find the other listings there. Just a question about photos - If their official profile pictures aren't acceptable, and I'm assuming photosets wouldn't be acceptable, what kind of photos CAN be used? I'm sure I do have something acceptable, I just am never quite sure what I can use. ~RebeccaBredin

If it was a live photo, I would say yes. But because it is an illustration, there's no way to hide the fact. I would just wait until the video is released, and then we can get a screenshot of one of the frames and make a banner out of it. Tanpatsu on Summary page

Why aren't we keeping the tanpatsu dramas on the Summary pages? I mean it is double the work to first add and then delete them and are they really interfering with the page? --Ina 02:09, 6 Jul 2007 (CDT)

We delete them on that page because the purpose of the page is to list the ratings of the renzoku for that particular season. We only place the tanpatsu on that page as an announcement. Once it is aired, we remove them. From thereon, a visitor can use the year categories, such as Category:JDrama2007 to find shows. Groink 13:21, 6 Jul 2007 (CDT)

What types of external links are acceptable for Japanese Dramas? I noticed that someone included links to the discussion threads for JDorama.com and D-Addicts.com relating to the drama Ushi ni Negai wo: Love & Farm, which I deleted before someone reverted it. I would like to know since the Help page really didn't define or show examples of the types of external links can be included in the DramaWiki other than the ones that shouldn't be included here. --YtToshi 22:00, 8 Jul 2007 (CDT)

Looking at how Wikipedia deals with this... Basically, the external link - regardless whether it is a forum topic or a static page - must have value from a "data" perspective that the DramaWiki article lacks, but at the same time the external link follows the DramaWiki linking guidelines. Of course, every editor will define "value" differently, so we should leave this up to the editors, allowing them to edit boldly. Value should not, however, include anything fancrufty, such as fansites or pages that contain non-NPOV information. Also, if the topic at JDorama.com is dead or totally mis-directed (ex: a drama topic turned into a all-out idol topic), we should not be linking to it. IMHO, I'd link to static pages like drama and artist profiles, but NOT link to forum discussions. As for D-Addicts, because DramaWiki is a subsidiary of D-Addicts, it would be odd not to link to other D-Addicts sources. But, as described in the hyperlinking guidelines, we should not allow linking to any sources within D-Addicts that involve fanworks - including fansubbing or locations where to download or stream fanworks, i.e. avoid linking to fansubs.d-addicts.com. by the way i'm sorry if this isn't how you properly reply to talks, but i was unsure so sorry in advance. anyways, i'm just replying to your comment you left on my talk. i'm sorry if i offended you by any way by changing the title. I only thought that since when translated directly its propose daisakusen, i should change it so it's correct, however it seems to bother you so i won't change it then. But out of curiosity why does it bother you to put propose instead of proposal? Anyway, once again sorry for the change.

Because we've brought this matter up in the past with two other editors. Although the katakana refers to the word "propose", the majority of the Internet interpret the katakana as "proposal", such as 101st Marriage Proposal which uses the same katakana, among other TV dramas. Hey groink I'm trying to figure out why the table of contents isn't showing up on Shoufukutei Tsurube's page, I just edited a few details and added a picture and it's not popping up like usual. Any ideas? - Magicus

I'm really sorry about that. I figured all pictures uploaded here are already copyrighted in one way or another, so I honestly didn't think it mattered. Plus, I actually downloaded them both from the Asian Fanatics Forum, not the official websites. So one question: how can you tell which ones are alright to upload, and which ones aren't? Is a logo the only thing that makes it off-limits? I don't plan to upload any more, I'm just curious/confused. Re: English Wikipedia to Chinese Wikipedia

Since we emphasize dramawiki is for English readers, I actively delete the Chinese version whenever I find an English version. I'm assuming editors knows there is Chinese wiki link within the English wiki. If they are active editors, they will make that extra click to read the Chinese article. about addicts wiki

I read the about which says "The only restriction is that all content must relate to live Asian TV drama series that have Eastern Asian influences. This includes production or artists who appear in a live Asian TV drama series." I notice the lists are dramas, movies and cfs. But doesn't anime (voice over) and stage plays also have eastern asian influnces? It's their own asian interpretation. And I was trying to help out fill in more information. I think some Internet users have a mis-perception of the Internet. (I have an authoritative opinion on this matter since my dad had more to do with the development of TCP/IP and the Internet itself than Al Gore.) The whole purpose of the Internet is to allow information to be published. HOWEVER, it does NOT mean that every information depository must contain EVERYTHING about a given subject. Every web site has a right to focus its information on a specific area - in DramaWiki's case TV dramas. I noticed through my years of teaching is that newbies want everything in one web site. My opinion regarding this is that people have very poor Google skill, and places like Wikipedia and Web 2.0 allow them to be lazy in their searches. ALWAYS read the guidelines of a given wiki before making edits. This is really Internet 101 skills regarding reading FAQs and such before participating. Regarding why we allow movies - I'm actually against this myself, but it was already put in place by the time I arrived here, and also it is identical to what IMDB does (and they, too, don't include stage plays and such.) um not sure how to ask you stuff so hopely this is the right way. I just noticed that a lot of the drama names don't follow the actual romanization, so i was wondering if there were specific rules for romanizing, and if they were different from the actual ones. like for example taiyou no namida was changed to taiyo no namida, but according to the actual romanizing it should say taiyou （たいよう)　instead of taiyo (たいよ) which completely changes the meaning of the word. anyways, so i was wondering how romanizing worked on dramawiki. thanks!

We have very specific rules on romanization. In short, we don't take an academic approach to romanization like Wikipedia or IMDB. Instead, we take the "every day" approach to romanization. No one with the surname "Sato" go around spelling it as "Satou", or "Ito" as "Itoh", etc. What you mentioned is wapuro romaji, and we do not use that method here either. Kamen Rider Kabuto

Because I'm not sure about this I prefer to ask first...

I saw several links to the english wikipedia articles for the Kamen Rider installments (Kamen Rider 555, Kamen Rider Kabuto and Kamen Rider Den-O, for example), while the original Kamen Rider series and other installments like Kamen Rider Agito do have their own Dramawiki articles. So I was wondering if I could create an article for one of those installments (I'm talking about Kamen Rider Kabuto).

Incorrectly placing categories into articles

If [[:Category:NTV|NTV]] this is incorrectly, then, when such category be found in wiki article (f.e. NTV in Ie_Naki_Ko_2, 14 Sai no Haha, SBS in Model, Rustic Period, WOWOW in Ai to Shihon Shugi and other) what should I do? Delete or keep? There is quotation from your created article - DramaWiki Manual of Style: "In Internet 101, it is best to learn the ways of a wiki by analyzing existing articles. If you are new to wiki editing but new to DramaWiki, use the existing articles to form a consensus of how things work on DramaWiki."

That is because out of 7000-plus articles, I can't keep track of every fricking article. So don't give me attitude, punk. I've stated in the style guide for TV shows that we DO NOT add categories in the details section. The style guide trumps everything else. Groink 04:28, 10 Jun 2008 (CDT)

Salaryman Kintaro

Is there any confirmation that other than the title, the storyline is completely unrelated? In America, TV shows do change TV networks. I'm assuming right now that the 2008 version of Salaryman Kintaro is related to the previous four seasons. If the show was called something like "Love Letter" or "First Love", then I could see the high probability of the storylines being totally unrelated from previous series using the same name.
