- Romance of the Three Kingdoms is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. The other three are Journey to the West, Dream of the Red Chamber, and Water Margin.
- Production of this epic drama started in 1990 and took ~4 years to complete. More than 20 assistant directors participated in its making. One of them was Wang Wei Guo, one of the three actors who played Zhang Liao.
- There are numerous instances of multiple actors playing the same role and the same actor playing more than one role in the series.
