Synopsis
In a past life, the Song Dynasty scholar Zhang Sui saved Hu Wude, an eight-tailed black fox spirit; the fox subsequently entered the mortal realm to repay the debt of gratitude, even though the scholar himself stubbornly refused to believe in the supernatural. Possessing a rare, mystical treasure that attracted the covetous gaze of various demons, the scholar — after achieving success in the imperial examinations and assuming an official post — joined forces with the fox. Together, they battled plague-spreading spirits and traversed the boundaries between the living and the dead, solving a series of bizarre mysteries and unfolding a fantastical tale of companionship between man and fox.
