Synopsis
Mo Li was a naive and carefree village girl from Subei during the 1930s forced to marry Gao Zu Er, the somewhat mentally challenged son of a local wealthy family in order to afford her handicapped father's hospital accommodations. After being harassed in her new home, she runs away with her beloved Huo Gui with the help of Zu Er. Unfortunately, they get separated during the escape and Mo Li eventually ends up on the Shanghai Bund, where she quickly learns to protect herself in the harsh environment by dressing as a boyish beggar. By chance she becomes acquainted with Hong Cheng Li, an ambitious up-and-coming entertainment industry mogul. Cheng Li recognizes Mo Li's potential as a performer and builds her up to become a superstar. Just when she thought she had it all, Mo Li is betrayed by the man to whom she owed much of her success and later presumed dead after a car accident resulting from the betrayal. However, she returns as alternate ego Xiao Yue Bai, a man with conflicting feelings and a vengeful heart. -- Lady Zhuge
