Nishimoto Riku (西本利久)
Quashlo, I see that you removed Nishimoto Riku. I thought she was in ep7? --Gryzze 00:54, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)
- The problem I've encountered as I add guests for shows is that I have to draw the line somewhere, else the list would just be too long. For some shows, it's not an issue because their cast list is not too long, but for shows like this or Juken no Kamisama, the cast list can get fairly long for just one episode. So while it's somewhat arbitrary, I usually separate the higher-profile guests from the lower-profile guests. In general, the latter group of guests will usually be lacking character names when the cast/credits show, or will be grouped together in larger numbers. Her name is definitely in the credits for ep7, but so are 7 other guests I omitted. More than anything, I want consistency, so if we add her name, I feel like we should be adding everybody else. Perhaps we may need to make some DramaWiki guidelines about who to add as guests? Quashlo 08:01, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)
- Ok, I see your point. It would be hard to make a guideline about this though because I think it depends on the situation.
- This might result in another problem. If we were to create an article for Nishimoto Riku (for example), we'd probably
- want her drama list to be as complete as possible. Should we then add this drama to her list but not include her in the cast? --Gryzze 08:20, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)
- Well, I think if you put it on her list, then her name should be on the page for the drama. From a user's perspective, I would find it odd to see a drama in an actor's list of shows but then not see that actor's name under the drama, and as an editor, I'd feel obliged to double check to make sure that he or she isn't being miscredited... Perhaps we could use one of those "collapsing tables" that they have on other wikis and just list all the guests? I'd be interested in hearing what other editors think and where they draw the "line"... Quashlo 20:47, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)
- Use the multiple column trick. Read my user page as an example. Groink 00:46, 20 Sep 2007 (CDT)
- I applied the multiple column thing to the article. What do you guys think?
- Looks great! I wish Ruroshin would upgrade MediaWiki... the multiple column thing would be so much easier! Groink 02:18, 20 Sep 2007 (CDT)
- Yes, but any opinions on whether we should add Nishimoto or not? If we were to add all the guests, that list would more than double in length. Quashlo 07:51, 20 Sep 2007 (CDT)
- I feel your concern. Here's my take on this... In theory, we should be as thorough as possible. I'm facing the same problem with Oshin in that this drama is SOOOOOOO long, there are literally hundreds of faces who pop in on only just one episode. Where do we draw the line where the artist has enough exposure in a show to earn a credit in DramaWiki? By way of IMDB, there is NO line. The problem we have however is that, unlike IMDB, we're using wiki software, which IMHO has its limits in situations like this. Another reason I brought up Oshin is that it is almost 25 years old. An artist who made an appearance in just one episode may be unimportant at that time. But give him 25 years and he's a HUGE star. For the dramas of today, we should not hold back on crediting even the most minuscule of a contribution by an artist - again because someday that artist will be more popular. By leaving out an artist's guest role, we're doing the artist injustice.
- Now, how do we work this out regarding wiki software? What we could do is deal with it like how we deal with other content that is too large for a single article, such as a weekly synopsis or a lengthy review. Up to now, we deal with this by creating sub-articles within the main article's namespace. As an example, we can create Shikaku Ukeoinin/Cast-Guests and throw the entire guest list into it, and then add a "more..." link in the main article that points to the sub-article - much like how the Korean drama articles do it when linking to an external cast list. Something to munch on... Groink 14:26, 20 Sep 2007 (CDT)
- That sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, I can't add all the guests for this series since I've already deleted episodes 1-6, but if I come across other dramas with similarly long guest lists, I'll probably end up listing everybody on a separate page. Quashlo 21:00, 20 Sep 2007 (CDT)
