Synopsis
Kitami Toru used to work at a huge consumer company. Concerned over the standards adopted at the company's manufacturing plant, Toru decided to report to the necessary authorities about the plant's non-compliance with food safety requirements. Although his intentions were pure, as he worried about the consumers' health, his whistle-blowing had many repercussions. His colleagues all lost their livelihoods, and his wife left him. Depressed over the consequences of his actions, Toru decided to return to his hometown and found a part-time job working at the local ward office. In the course of his work, he soon begins to realise about the mayor's fraudulent and illegal activites.
One day, Toru is ordered by his boss, Kato Minoru, to look into the problem of the Kumasawa Kayoko, a lady whose house seems like a garbage dump due to her hoarding disorder. When Toru tries to help Kayoko tidy up her place, like the others before him, he is chased away by Kayoko who loaths to have others touch her stuff. While running away from her, Toru discovers that his first love, Asao Yoko, is actually staying next door to Ryoko. Yoko is now a single mother to 13 year old Yuto, and through all the turbulent times she has gone through, she has fond memories of her time with Toru, and feels very comfortable talking to him now.
Will Toru be able to help Kayoko clear her home up? Will his sincerity be able to get through to her? As he struggles to come to terms with his past actions, will Toru be strong enough to attempt to clear the rot within the local ward office?
