I am a graduate student specializing in Edo period cultural history, and the history and culture of Okinawa.
I grew up in New York, and have since then lived in Boston, DC, Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto, London, and Honolulu, before coming now to Southern California. I first got involved in studying Japan, and enjoying Japanese popular culture (dramas, films, anime, Jpop music) during my undergrad years, and so it's been more than ten years now that I've been engaged in such things. I don't watch nearly as many dramas as I once did, but I am still very much interested, particularly in series related to Okinawa, or those featuring kabuki actors (I'm a big kabuki fan), and am eager to get to help out in expanding the coverage of this wiki, especially on pages related to those two topics.
I've been studying Japanese, also, on and off for about ten years, and at the risk of sounding insufficiently humble, would place my textual reading/translation skills at a rather "advanced" level. I still have a long way to go, though, especially in terms of smooth spoken conversation.
Finally, I was extremely active as an editor on Wikipedia for a few years back in the mid-2000s, and remain active today on a separate Japanese History wiki, so I absolutely understand how to use the Wiki markup, and think I have a pretty good sense of what the intentions and parameters of this Wiki are.
