Akai Series 2005, Fukada Kyoko, Ishihara Satomi, Ayase Haruka

Horipro artistes, Fukada Kyoko, Ayase Haruka and Ishihara Satomi will be acting in the Akai Series 2005 (Red Series 2005) as a celebration of TBS's 50th anniversary. The series comprises of remakes of dramas starring retired actress Yamaguchi Momoe who quit when she got married and she used to belong to Horipro too.

The original Akai series was made up of 10 dramas shown between 1974 to 1980 produced by TBS. As such, TBS chose three of the most popular dramas i.e Akai Giwaku (Red Suspicion), Akai Unmei (Red Fate), Akai Shogeki (Red Shock) and let Ishihara, Ayase and Fukada act in them respectively. This project also marks the 45th anniversary of Horipro.

The first drama Akai Iwaku will be shown on 15, 22 and 29 June at 9pm while the other 2 dramas will be shown within the year. (May 27 2005, Dorama World)

Translated from Gendai Net

The first episode of Akai Giwaku was shown on 15 June but the ratings did not meet the 20% expectation by TBS. This was a far cry from the original series which got 23.4% when it was shown on TV.

The other 2 dramas under the Akai Series are Akai Unmei starring Ayase Haruka and Akai Shogeki by Fukada Kyoko.

According to critics, the Akai series remake by TBS focused too much on staying true to the original and did not tailor the content to meet modern needs unlike Shiroi Kyoto which became a big hit. That is why it did not attract the expected amount of viewers to tune in. ( Jun 23 2005, Dorama World)
