About Junko

One of the very first modern Japanese idols. Along with Yamaguchi Momoe and Mori Masako, the three girls were dubbed the "Schoolgirl Trio", and dominated the JPOP music scene throughout the 1970s. Junko made her debut in 1973, after winning a talent content held by NTV the previous year. In August 1992, Junko revealed that she was a member of the Unification Church, also known as "the Moonies" - a very controversial Korean-based religious cult. Junko and about 20,000 other men and women took part in a mass wedding in South Korea. Soon after the wedding, Junko quickly disappeared from the geinokai. She would later raise a family of three children. ---groink
