Biography
Ella was born in June 1981, making her the oldest member of the Chinese pop group S.H.E. She likes playing basketball and usually plays the sport with other Taiwanese celebrities like Jay Chou for example. Ella is known for her down-to-earth, kind, and humourous personality. In 2007, she was voted by online fans as Taiwan's most unpretentious artist. Out of the three members of S.H.E, Ella is the most outspoken.
On August 8, 2000, HIM International Music held a "Universal 2000 Talent and Beauty Girl Contest". When Ella and her younger brother went to Taipei for a holiday, Ella's older sister had registered her for the competition. She was very intimidated by the long line of contestants, and she almost gave up before the first round - however, her sister convinced her to stay. Her unique voice caught the label's attention and helped to keep her in the competition through to the final round. The name Ella was chosen by the record company following a personality test of the singer. It represents 'courage'. Ella finished high school but didn't go to university because of her love and passion for music. Her voice, even though in the alto range, was commended for its strong and beautiful nature.
In 2002, Ella started to participate in the acting industry, starting with the drama Magical Love. She showed that she can not only sing, but she can even act as well. In 2003, Ella was chosen as the female lead character in The Rose. Her band mates, Selina and Hebe Tien were also involved in the drama as supporting characters. After a successful year of releasing albums and concerts all over the country, S.H.E rose up again with the drama Reaching for the Stars. All three of the band members were the three main female characters.
In 2006, Ella starred as the lead female role in the hit drama Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu (also known as Hanazakarino Kimitachihe, Hana Kimi, or 花樣少年少女) with Wu Chun and Jiro Wang of Fahrenheit. In 2008, Ella will be working together with her co-stars from this drama once again in the sequel, Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu 2. In this particular drama, Ella plays a girl who disguises herself as a boy in order to enter the boy's school that her idol attends.
