Synopsis

  • Yamada plays Ryouji who finds out that his first love, Yukiho is forced into child pornography by his own father and kills him. To his horror, the object of his father's perversion is Yukiho, whose mother forced her to do so to relieve their dire economic straits. Yukiho also retaliates in similar manner by staging a suicide for her mother as well as herself. As a result of this, Yukiho suffers serious injuries. In order to protect Yukiho and improve her life, Ryouji enters the world of vice and dabbles in crimes to support Yukiho.

  • Production took 6 months to persuade the author to agree to this drama adaptation from the novel which has sold over 1.2 million copies since its release in 1999 and has become the top bestselling suspense novel.
  • First episode aired for 2hours (including commercials).
  • Tsutaya (DVD Rental Shop in Japan) has a free DVD rental to promote Byakuyakou. It has a digest version of Episode 1, interviews, and making of segments. This is a first for dramas because such making of DVDs are usually produced for movies and sold before the screening date. Members can rent this DVD free of charge, which is about 45 minutes long. The promotion period was from 2005-12-05 to 2006-01-19.
  • Shibasaki Kou wrote the lyrics for the theme song Kage. The single will be released February 15th.
  • Izumisawa Yuuki & Fukuda Mayuko were chosen from 180 kids from the audition.
