Synopsis

Harada Tamotsu (Ayano) was suspected of murdering his wife. He fled to Taiwan and apparently committed suicide. But Tamotsu’s friend Masuzawa Banji (Asano) who works as a private detective, has doubts about Tamotsu’s death. Also, Harada Heizo (Emoto), a powerful media mogul is covering the case. In the meantime Masuzawa gets involved in another case involving the neighbors of the Harada family: drunk novelist Kamiido Joji (Furuta), a publishing company editor (Taguchi) and finally a beautiful woman Aiko (Koyuki) who holds the key to case.

It's based on Raymond Chandler's novel of the same title and set in Tokyo in the fifties.
