About
Born in Tokyo's Setagaya district, Saburo Tokito moved to Osaka at an early age. In 1973 he entered the Osaka Municipal Senior High School of Technology and Arts and in 1976 enrolled in the Design Department of the Osaka University of Arts where he majored in Industrial Design. He acquired his first taste of acting through the university's Acting Circle. Around the same time he also became involved in bands and professionally debuted as a singer-actor in a production of the rock musical Hair. In 1981 he appeared in his first television drama, The Rainbow-Colored Woods, recording the title song of the same series and securing a hit with Drowsily Embracing the River's Flow. In 1983 he debuted in the film world with Me Own Wedding (Shochiku Studios), following that up the next year with The Miracle of Petrel Joe (Shochiku). In 1994 he published a collection of essays accompanied by his own landscape photographs, which were also exhibited separately. In the same year he planned and directed the video, Sky Blue and began other new activities. The series Imperfect Apples is typical of his TV drama work.
