Synopsis
The story takes place during the reign of Hong Taiji, the founder of Qing dynasty. He formed military alliances by marrying the daughters of powerful or wealthy clans. He first married Jerger of Mongol Borjigit clan. Then to solidify her clan’s support, he married her niece Dayu'er. However, it is Dayu’ers low status half-sister, Harjol, he favored above the rest. His favoritism caused a rift between the women. Dayu’er embarked on a quest to place her son on the throne. She poisoned Harjol to make her sister barren. She also formed a secret alliance with his brother Dorgon to block his elder son and other powerful brothers' claim to the throne.
