Drama ratings are WRONG!

In an attempt to keep the Japanese drama ratings honest, I've started the auditing process. What I'm finding is that virtually all the ratings for the past few seasons have been coming from a partial list that is released within a few days after these shows are aired. The ratings DramaWiki should be using is from the list provided by Video Research, Ltd. The ratings from the research firm consists of statistics for the entire Japan market, and not just a certain market area. Keep in mind that the ratings consist of two area: Kanto and Kansai. The Kanto numbers are much quicker to be released, which drives certain editors to post them without realizing what they're actually posting.

Therefore, what I'm forced to do is to remove all the ratings for Autumn 2006 as of this entry. The exceptions are Komyo ga Tsuji, Wataru Seken wa oni Bakari and Imo Tako Nankin, three of which I've personally been updating using the proper statistics from VR. I'll also be slowly auditing the numbers from past seasons, but I'm pretty sure they're all wrong as well. It may also be somewhat difficult to locate these numbers, as the official VR site lists only the top-10. But still, it is important that we obtain the Kanto/Kansai combined ratings.

One or more of you may be saying to yourselves "So what!" In the history of the ratings, the Kanto area usually rates dramas higher than the Kansai area - especially trendy dramas. I personally have my own theories on why the difference, but for the sake of DramaWiki the interpretations do not matter. What does matter is that, by sticking with only the Kanto area, we would be leaving out a very large part of Japan. In statistics, that would not only be unfair, but it does not make good statistics.

Please editors! Please cite your sources when posting viewership ratings. We can't afford to have mistakes like these. It tarnishes the validity of information on DramaWiki. Do not feel like you need to rush the numbers for the sake of time. It is best that we wait a week or two for the combined ratings. Groink 03:19, 23 Oct 2006 (CDT)

Right now I'm searching around the 'net for exactly where they publish the numbers for all the dramas within a given week. I only know the link to the top-10 list. They're around though... It is just a matter of finding the source. Groink 06:38, 23 Oct 2006 (CDT)

New way of dealing with ratings

Rather than sticking with only the nationwide ratings, I've decided to display three different ratings: Kanto, Kansai, and nationwide. Then this way, seeing the Kanto numbers are released much faster, it'll allow the editors to add then, and then later wait for the Kansai and nationwide numbers. Groink 02:30, 24 Oct 2006 (CDT)
