About
Daniel Henney was born on November 28, 1979. He was born and raised in Carson City, Michigan by Christine a Korean American and Phillip Henney an Irish American. Her mother was born in Busan, Korea, but was adopted in the United States. He was a star basketball player at Carson City-Crystal High School and led the Eagles to the MHSAA Central Region Championship (CSAA) during his senior year of high school. He impressed several talent scouts which led him to receive several scholarships offers for him to consider at which college he would end up joining, that one ended up being the University of Illinois at Chicago.
While he was attending college, Henney debuted as a model in 2001, working mostly in France, Italy, Hong Kong and Taiwan. After his debut in South Korea in an Amore pacific's commercial, "Odyssey Sunrise cosmetics", he became a spokesperson alongside Jeon Ji Hyun for Olympus Cameras and with Kim Tae Hee for Daewoo Electronics's Klasse air conditioners.
He started gaining traction as an actor after performing the supporting role of Dr. Henry Kim in the South Korean hit TV drama, My Name is Kim Sam-Soon, he quickly caugth the attention of viewers because of his good looks and charming performance. Surprisingly, He didn't know a single word of Korean. It took some time for him to some extent to speak a little bit of Korean, which he knew he learned mostly from his work as a model and spokesperson in commercials.
Henney later starred in 2006's Spring Waltz, once again in a supporting role, during that time he learned the Korean language. His performance was praised in the drama and his character was a complete favorite of viewers. He would end up making after concluding his stint in the hit drama series, appearances in all sort of variety shows, one cuch famous variety show was "Family Outing".
He landed the lead role in his film debut, in the 2006 film Seducing Mr. Robin / Mr. Perfect, and he later swept all the major major cinema awards for the best new actor category in South Korea for his performance in the 2007 film My Father and he became the first foreigner to do so.
He made his Hollywood film debut in 2009, when he portrayed Agent Zero in the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he later appeared in the small screen during fall season portraying Dr. David Lee in the TV series Three Rivers, the TV series was canceled after a short run.
A year later, in 2010, he returned to South Korean television for KBS2'sFugitive: Plan B alongside fellow co-stars Rain and Lee Na Young, The rights to the series were sold to seven countries in Asia including Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, where it became a huge success.
He later over the course of the 2010's, Henney has appeared in several American TV series, such as Revolution, NCIS: Los Angeles, among others, he is currently appearing in Criminal Minds in the role of special operations agent Matthew "Matt" Simmons, a role he previously portrayed in Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.
