Synopsis
Spanning the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras amidst the rivalry between Japan and Korea, this explores the political marriage of the last crown prince of Korea Li Eun and Japanese royal Li Bangja/Li Masako (이방자, 李方子) née Nashimotonomiya Masako (梨本宮方子). -Fuji TV
Princess Masako (Kanno Miho), the first in the Imperial House of Japan to be married off to a foreign country. His Highness the Crown Prince Eun (Okada Jun'ichi), the last member of the ill-fated Joseon Dynasty of Korea, forcibly brought to Japan at the young age of 11 under the premise of education.
Within the whirpool of rivalry between Japan and Korea, a political marriage in the interests of "friendship" between the two countries. Through the eras of upheaval--Meiji, Taishou, Shouwa--these two would attempt to forge that fateful marriage into a bond of true love. The anti-Japanese movements throughout Korea; the sudden death of Eun's father, the Gwangmu Emperor; the unexpected death of Masako and Eun's first son; the Great Kantou Earthquake; the loss of royal status following the end of the Pacific War--these and various other hardships would attack this couple.
Combined with location shots at UNESCO World Heritage Sites and Important Cultural Properties sites, we will paint on a grand scale the story of a beautiful, but trying love engulfed into the whirlpool of history. -quashlo @ D-Addicts.
