General help for readers and for editors of DramaWiki can be found in the MediaWiki user guide. The DramaWiki specific guides are listed on this page.
DramaWiki Editing Standards
When adding/editing content please use the standards defined in the following articles:
|
Creating a New Page
There are three easy ways to create a new article:
- 1. Entering the page title in the browser's address bar
- To create a new page, simply add the name of the new page to the end of the URL:
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/{name of article goes in here}
- For example, if you wanted to create a page called "New Drama", then enter the URL in your browser:
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/New Drama
- and an empty page with the article name "New Drama" will show up. Click on the create tab at the top of the page, bring up the editor box, and start typing in the contents.
- Note that this method may not work always, for example for titles that contain special characters.
- 2. Creating articles through red wikilinks
- You can also create a new page by clicking on those red links which are just references to pages that don't exist (yet). An index of all red links can be found on DramaWiki's list of wanted pages. Be careful not to create duplicate pages of articles that already exist under a different name.
- 3. Creating articles through the search page
- If you enter the title of a non-existing article on DramaWiki's search page, then DramaWiki creates a red link. You can use that red link to create te article (see previous paragraph).
Search Before You Create
Before creating a new page it is recommended to check if it doesn't already exist under a different name. The search function is very helpful here to avoid duplicate pages. Perform multiple searches using a variety of spellings and pictoral characters. For example, if you want to create an article called "Sakai Noriko", make the following searches:
- sakai noriko
- noriko sakai
- sakai <- check the search results
- noriko <- check the search results
- 酒井法子
There may be situations where an article already exists, but you disagree with the spelling of the article. In this situation, it is best that you stick with the existing article, rather than making a new article with similar content. Misspelled articles can be renamed using the move feature. More information on how to handle these types of editing disputes can be found in the style guide.
Add a Page to a Category
All DramaWiki articles should be categorized, see list of all DramaWiki categories. To add a page or uploaded file to a category, simply edit the page and add the following line to the end of the page (where Name is the name of the category you want to add it to).

You may put a page into multiple categories. Just add the appropriate category tag for each category and the article will be listed in all of them. For example an artist may be an actress as well as a singer.
Adding Images
Before you can use an image on a page you or another user must upload it first. Note that very new users do not have upload permissions. Only autoconfimed user (users with 10+ edits and at least 2 days membership) are allowed to upload. Before you upload images, please consult the image section of our style guide.
Steps to upload a file
- Prepare the file for upload. Make sure the file is exactly as you want it.
- In the sidebar, under "Tools", click "Upload file".
- Click the "Browse" button next to the "Source filename:" to locate the file on your computer (the name of the "browse" button depends on your web browser).
- Change the Destination filename: to something descriptive, if necessary.
- Fill in the Summary, if necessary. You may use the information template here.
- Click the Upload file button.
If the file is large, then you may need to wait several seconds for the upload to complete.
How to use images on pages
You can display images in articles using the following syntax:

In DramaWiki articles you usually want to use the thumb or frame options to display right aligned images in drama or artist articles. Optionally you may want to chose a horizontal resize option (in combination with the thumb option) to display the image smaller than its original size.
To display a portrait photo on an artist page for example use:

To display tall drama posters or DVD cover scans for example use:

To display wide drama posters or video screen shots for example use:

For very wide images you may want increase the horizontal size to 400px or more. When using many images (e.g. on drama pages with many seasons) it is better to choose a lower resolution.
For the complete syntax description and for a tutorial refer to:
DramaWiki currently supports the following image formats:
- JPEG for photographical images like drama banners, artist photos, video screenshots, and cover scans
- PNG for schematic images like desktop screenshots, clipart, icons, and images that use transparency
- GIF for schematic, transparent or animated images
Deleting Content
Editors can only add and change content. Only the admins can delete information from DramaWiki. (Technically nothing gets really deleted but is moved to an archive from where it can be undeleted.)
Editors may mark pages or images for deletion. The details are described in the DramaWiki deletion policy. Alternatively editors can post a request for deletion. The staff will decide then what to do. Possible actions could be:
- keep (an empty or incomplete page may be kept and marked as a stub)
- delete (e.g. bogus, random, or vandal pages; redundant, corrupt, conflicting or otherwise unwanted images)
- redirect/merge of a duplicate page to/with an already existing page.
Note: Please don't request deletion if it is obvious that the page will be kept or redirected. You can mark pages as a stub and redirect pages yourself.
Report Vandalism
If you spot some serious vandalism on our wiki then please inform our admins through the vandalism watchlist. Please don't try to fix the page yourself but rather report the culprit instead. The admins have better means to deal with vandalism, like
- blocking/banning vandals
- rollback/revert changes
- delete bogus pages
