Creed

The one simple goal of DramaWiki: Become the number-one resource of user-contributed Asian drama information on the Internet. In order to meet this goal, all information on DramaWiki must have consistency. Consistency brings credibility. Credibility is an asset, giving the reader the assurance that the information provided by DramaWiki is clean, accurate, un-biased and verified.

In order to achieve the goal of being number-one on the Internet, DramaWiki must maintain a strict policy on how the content is validated, written and presented.

General guidelines

For artist articles, all editors must keep these general guidelines in mind:

All style issues are covered in DramaWiki's Manual of Style.
Validate all information before posting.
Keep the focus on the relationship of the artist to TV dramas, and make sure the weight of the article tilts towards that relationship, with the other elements (movies, personal trivia, etc.) taking a backseat.
The information does not reflect a personal POV (point of view).
DramaWiki is NOT to be used as a free-form, free web site for fansite types. The artist articles must be presented in a professional-like, clean and informational form. Think of keeping the layout in an encyclopedia-like form.
All romanization should be applied according to the Romanization of Hangul and Korean Personal Names Romanization Preferences guidelines.

Formatting specifications

Philosophy

The idea behind setting formatting specifications is to give all Korean-related artist articles a consistent look and feel. Consistency allows for frequent readers to become familiar with the organization of information provided by DramaWiki, and therefore allows the readers to basically spend the least amount of time on a given article, but still walk away with the information needed. It has been proven in various studies that an article with un-organized information, or an article with too much information can cause the reader to suffer from reader fatigue.

In order to provide the reader with information and also provide a reader-friendly experience, it is very important that the editors stick with the formatting specifications. Through experimentation and feedback by the moderators and frequent editors of DramaWiki, the formatting specifications have been designed with consistency in mind. There are reasons behind the defined sections, the order in which they are displayed, and the content of each section. The specifications are based on the a typical visit to an artist article:

Reader looks to see what TV dramas the artist appeared in.
Reader looks to see what personal information is written about the artist.
Reader looks to other resources for additional information.

Changing the order of the sections and/or changing the contents of each section will have an effect on both the reader experience and the goal of consistency DramaWiki strives to enforce.

Use of images

Keep the profile image of the artist to 250 pixels or less.
Only one image per artist article maximum. Full-frontal headshot view is preferred, with the entire face being visible. Image should be sharp rather than blurry. Do not post images that are jagged or bitty (ex: a 100px image blown up to 250px, or a magazine image poorly re-touched). Best choice of image is one where the artist is being him/herself, and not dressed up as a particular character.
Do not upload images that contain copyright or trademark symbols, or other text. Use a photo editing tool to remove the information.
If a copyright/trademark owner demands removal of an image, please obey the request and remove the image from the article.

Profile section notes

See Korean Personal Names Romanization Preferences guidelines on how to romanize artist names.
Place all other variations of the Korean artist name in the Also known as: section, seperating each with a backslash ("/").. Example: Im Ju Hwan / Yim Joo Hwan / Yim Ju Hwan
Real name is the name of either a male or female if the artist uses a stage name that differ. Use only if this is the case.
Nicknames are separated by backslashes ("/").
Professions are written in sentence form. Example: Actress, singer and songwriter
All date references should use the form YYYY-MMM-DD. Months are {Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec}
- For birthdates of living persons the {{birth date and age}} template can be used.
All measurements should be given in metrics. Weight must be in kilograms (kg), and height must be measured in centimeters (cm). Body measurements should be left off for any artist under the age of 18. This is because their bodies are still developing; it does not make any sense to keep editing the artist's weight and height every month.
Star sign is the western astrological sign under which the person was born
DramaWiki uses the ABO blood group system to determine the blood type of an artist has.
Talent agencies include: talent agencies, recording companies (if the artist is a musical recording artist), or TV network if the artist is under contract with a TV network.
Other than the fields listed here, do not add additional fields. Additional information that is deemed not fancruft should be added to either the "About Artist" biography section in sentence form, or to the "Trivia" section in bullet-listed form.
All other fields left blank should be removed.

Place here the biography about the artist. Include artist's works and interests outside of TV dramas, but make sure TV dramas are included and dominate the biography.
Create links to all artist and drama name references - either within DramaWiki or externally. For DramaWiki links, use the [[Wikipedia:xxxx|display text]] parameter. If Wikilinking to the Korean Wikipedia, use [[Wikipedia:ko:xxxx|display text]]
Write the biography in sentence/paragraph form. Do not write the biography in a list form.
Add the {{noabout}} tag to an empty About section.

TV Shows section notes

List all TV dramas in chronological and descending order, with the most recent work listed at the top.
Use only the asterisks ("*") mark in the lists. Avoid using other marks, such as numbering ("#").
Give episode numbers ONLY if the artist is considered a cast member, and has appeared in just one episode. If an artist appeared in two or more episodes, the artist is considered a regular cast member, therefore listing episode numbers is not necessary.
Optionally, the name of the played character may be appended for each listed series.
Avoid entering hangul in the TV Shows section. The only exception is when DramaWiki lacks an entry for the work listed. Giving the hangul version of the work is helpful when another editor creates the article, and uses the information as a part of the research. However, once the article has been created, then the hangul should be removed from the artist's TV show listing.
Adding the works in the listing is only 50-percent of the editing job. The other 50-percent is making sure the artist is listed in the work's article. Remember that linking is two-way.
DramaWiki is a wiki site focusing only on TV dramas. Do not list a TV show that is not considered a drama by definition. Without getting into details on what a drama is, dramas are NOT: variety shows, musical shows, documentaries, etc.

Movies section notes

If you add a link to a movie then do not use internal wiki links. This causes an editor to later on actually create an article for the movie, which is what DramaWiki should not have.
List all movies in chronological and descending order, with the most recent work listed at the top.
The name of the played character may be appended optionally for each listed movie.
All links should be leading to either to a respectable information website in English language or an official movie homepage.

Endorsements section notes

Endorsements are companies and/or products that are promoted by an artist. Some editors call this section CMs or commercials. This is contextually incorrect because the intent of the section is to provide information on ALL endorsements made by the artist, and not just commercials. Only company names should be listed. Avoid adding information that is too specific (ex: a particular CM). Do not list publication names.
If years are known, list all endorsements in chronological and descending order, with the most recent endoresment listed at the top. Years are optional. If the years are not known, the endoresements can be listed in any order.
Endoresements can also be listed in comma delimited form (ex: Pepsi-cola, Toyota). This is an alternative style in case the editor feels the bulleted listing format becomes too lengthy, or the listings lack years.

Avoid too much information. The definition of trivia is a piece of information that may help in answering a quiz question. Based on this definition, the information provided in this section should be very brief pieces of information that explains a certain special trait of the artist.
This section is not to be used for listing lengthy pieces of information that the editors deem as fan-driven information. Fan information is very personal information that is frivolous to the casual reader, and generally does not contribute any critical insight of the artist regarding his/her craft. Examples include: favorite xxxxx, right-handed/left-handed, desires, ex-lovers/ex-spouses, loves xxxxxx, etc.

For external links, keep the focus of the links to primary and secondary sourced sites, or sites are known to be credible throughout the TV drama community.
Types of sites to avoid linking to:
- Sites that are purely fan-based. Doing so is considered link spamming in the wiki world.
- Any sites that contain adult-oriented information and images.
- Any sites that contain downloading of motion or still media, such as video streaming or direct downloads, peer-to-peer download links (BT, ClubBox, etc.), or bulk image downloads (photobooks, etc.)
