So my idea is to allow articles on DramaWiki in other languages than English, exactly the same way as Wikipedia does it. In terms of size of saving space it may be a bad idea, but in terms of quality of the articles I guess it could be a positive proceeding. Surfing in the d-addicts forum you can quickly observe that a big part of the users don't speak English as their mother tongue (neither do I). If it's the same way with the DramaWiki editors, then wouldn't non-english speaking editors ameliorate their articles if they write them in their own language? Furthermore, aren't d-addicts-users mostly interested in diffrent cultures? Language is THE essential part of culture. And aren't they generally motivated to learn foreign tongues? Why not create the possibility for an intercultural and interlingual horizontal expansion on DramaWiki. I think the big success of Wikipedia is due to the instant linkage between languages. Wikipedia democraticised not only knowledge, but also the use of languages in the internet. Predominance of one language in the internet or not - both ways could be of advantage, depending on the application, I guess. ==Picture of ducks??==
To continue the convo regarding this issue that you and YT had... I never thought about it that way before. I would think this works well if many of the artists were already on the English Wikipedia. What about in the case that there is no English page on Wikipedia? We would then use the Chinese Wikipedia link. But then down the road, what if someone creates the English page? Are we then going to remove the Chinese link from DramaWiki?
+
Hi WaterOB, I dont' know if you noticed but a user (Tangyanzixuan)uploaded this picture http://wiki.d-addicts.com/File_talk:CIMG0573.JPG and started a talk page about ducks....um unless I'm missing out on something and its actually related to a drama...I don't think this is appropriate here. Please check it out and remove accordingly. Thanks. --iwaseJEN

Here's what I have in mind (but this is in no way a policy): The problem with the English Wikipedia is that many of their artist articles are way out of date. So for us editors, we rely more on Chinese Wikipedia than the English site. Thinking along the line of a user's experience, he would have to first click to the English page. And then second click to the Chinese page. On the other hand, if we provide both the English and Chinese links, it will satisfy both parties: the party who could care less about the Chinese Wikipedia, and the party who uses the Chinese Wikipedia for updates to port over to both DramaWiki and the English Wikipedia.

One thing I do want to mention for everyone is that once we set a guideline, it is to be used regardless of the genre - whether it is Chinese, Japanese, etc. So we need to think about this in that light. Groink 20:09, 18 Sep 2007 (CDT)

Upcoming Japanese Dramas
:I would like to put my input here. First of all, this is not a big matter at all. Like you said, active editor knows how to get Chinese link from English Wikipedia, but Drama Wiki is not only for editors. Drawa Wiki is also for the readers who are not editors. Most of them aren't as that familiar with Wikipedia. So, would there be any problem to put both wikipedia links? The target is to give the most convenient information to the readers. Therefore, i don't see there would be any problem to put both wikipedia links on the article. --uladelz 07:16, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)
+
Hi, I think I somehow messed up the Upcoming Japanese Dramas page. I added a new section for tanpatsu to the autumn 2010 page but now there's another section on the UJD page between the headline and the table. Can you please have a look and maybe tell me what went wrong? Also is it ok to add only the cast for a confirmed but still untitled drama? Thank you!

::I'm for including Wikipedia links to both as well. As groink alluded to, it's not like DramaWiki visitors are forced to click on Chinese/Japanese/Korean Wikipedia if they don't know the language. That's why links are clearly labeled.  Personally, I like to include direct links to Chinese Wikipedia, etc. as a way to cite the source of information I may have gotten for the creation and/or maintenance of DramaWiki articles.  Also, I don't think it's necessarily safe to assume that all DramaWiki editors (or even just the active ones) are aware of the intra-linking between Wikipedia in various languages.  If a policy is to be decided either way that will affect all genres (not just Chinese), I think input from other editors who may not necessarily be aware of this discussion, given its topic title, should also be taken into consideration. --Lady Zhuge 07:36, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)

New Categories
 +
Hi WaterOB. I was wondering if it would be alright to make a few new categories for jdramas. 1) FujiTV's 24 Hour television special drama. As they do one every year, i thought it might work if we had a category/page listing for them and people can easily identify what it was for. 2) Drama time slots that doesn't have a category yet. I noticed Getsu9 and a few more have their own category/page (sorry i don't know what exactly they're called, the listing page XD ) and other time slots do have specific names given to it but dont' have a listing yet. What do you think? Thanks =) --iwaseJEN

:::If that were the case, same logic would state that a Chinese artist page should have a Japanese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Korean wiki simply because it's where editors gotten their info. I did notice some wiki in another language has more comprehensive info than the native language. I don't like redundant info from the "SAME" source. If they can get to Chinese wiki through English wiki, why must we repeat it? And as I replied to uladelz, if the editors doesn't know about the intra-link, it's time for they to learn. --WaterOB 09:13, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)

Sequels/Remake
 +
Hi WaterOB. I just had 2 questions regarding the upcoming japanese dramas. First of all, with Hana Kimi, since it is a remake with a completely new cast, should a new page be created? Also the official title has been slightly changed by fuji tv as well to reflect that it is a remake. Secondly, with drama sequels with completely different titles, usually would a new page be created(similar to general rouge...)? Also they've added a new main cast. (Saigo no Bansan) Thanks~ --iwaseJEN
 +
:Thanks for the advice~! So new page for hana kimi it is. And I guess with Saigo no Banssan, it does have its own page on ja wiki, and Miura Haruma has been added in for the full season and as the new character. And by the looks of the mini synopsis on ja wiki, the story has been changed around a bit, so i'll follow ja wiki's lead then and make a new page. Thanks again =D --iwaseJEN

::::You take this matter too serious. If you are concern about English-only, why the character's name  in hanzi (which i think they are not as that significant) are not being removed for most of Chinese articles? The "English-only" information and external links are two different things, you know. External links are just for references and like Lady Zhuge said, it's up to the readers if they want to click on the link or not. Therefore, there should not be any problem for linking both wikipedias. Besides, if you are going to remove Chinese Wikipedia link, this definitely nonparallel with other Japanese and Korean articles as they don't mind on keeping both links. I suggest we follow the majority =] --uladelz 11:08, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)

:I'd like to comment on this since Groink said it would also affect Japanese articles. ::I support what uladelz have said about the seriousness of this topic. Unlike the other information of each entry, external links should be a bit more lax. It's really up to the user to click on the Chinese one or the English one. I really don't see how adding a Chinese wikipedia link or wikipedia links of other language would hurt this situation. Sometimes the English wikipedia does not provide as much details (in worst case, it only has one sentence "So and so is a Hong Kong singer and actor."). Regarding your argument that a Chinese artist page might get cluttered by having too many wiki links of different language, I would say that this is a highly hypothetical scenario. I don't think there are that many TV artists out there that has popularity covering such a huge geographical area (seriously, Arabic??). Besides, drama-wiki can easily limit the amount of intralinking by making it a policy that only a certain language of wiki links can be included in the external links section for each artist, i.e. only English, the other languages that the artist himself/herself speaks, and maybe one more language of a geographical area in which the artist is active (active in terms of TV shows). So, for example, for an artist whose main language is Chinese, but can also speak Japanese, it makes sense to include links from English, Chinese, and Japanese wikipedia. If this artist is also highly active in Korea, then a Korean wikipedia link is also allowed. This makes the most perfect sense to me, because if an artist speaks a certain language in public, he/she might promote or have works in that language. Of course this limiting policy is only my suggestion. Moreover, I don't believe there are that many wikipedia entries on one single artist unless he/she is very popular. I don't see how this limiting strategy would hurt the current situation. It's definitely easier to have a policy to limit the explosion of different language links than to remove all the current non-English links. - Humbeggar 11:43, 19 Sep 2007 (CDT)

Per discussion with MoerkJ, Taiwan's mini-movie (微電影), China's webisodes (网路独播), and Japan's mobile dramas are all to be listed under TV Drama. --WaterOB 23:06, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

:This started as a simple difference of opinion between YT and I on the inclusion of Chinese wiki when there is English wiki present for Patty Hou. I consider Chinese wiki and English wiki the SAME source, therefore it's a duplicate posting under external links. Obviously, YT and you guys don't agree. I'm okay with that. I think the topic became serious when Groink mentioned about changing the policy for all categories. ...is not necessary. The name change is already handled through redirects. If the page is moved again thoses edits will be rendered useless. The links can be easily fixed later by a maintenance script or robot for all pages. Hi again, sorry if i keep dropping at your talk page. Regarding user Marc8, i bet you are aware that he/she had a bad editing history in the past. While his/her editing doesnt really harmful or make anything worse, somehow they are getting my nerves in a way. Trivial things which such as birthdate of children, religion, high school and changing template birth date age from bda which is not necessary causing the edits redundant. This user also keeps moving pages but seems like this user is not aware all the discussion on his/her talk page? Is there any way to make this user aware of this issue? Just asking. Thank you!

New Categories

Sequels/Remake

Thanks for the advice~!

Mini-movie / Webisode / Mobile drama

Per discussion with MoerkJ, Taiwan's mini-movie (微電影), China's webisodes (网路独播), and Japan's mobile dramas are all to be listed under TV Drama. --WaterOB 23:06, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

I got a complain

So I put into work for the upcoming TVB Sequel of The Hippocratic Crush and you deleted it. I just want to say, first, it was comfirmed that The Hippocratic Crush will be having a sequel and it was also shown in many comercials on TVB so I just wanted to say that you need to explain to me why you deleted the Dramawiki page for. --YuenYuen2

Users

Hi, since you are the only admin who active on dramawiki, would you mind to take a look on DramaWiki:Vandalism Watch List page. To be honest, im not sure if its really vandalism but i think this one need input from mods/admin since i tried to communicate with the user but he/she keeps ignoring the discussion. Please have a look and let me know if there is solution for this problem. Thank you. --Natokajun (talk) 03:11, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you. --Natokajun (talk) 14:19, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
