About Kim Soo Hyun
As a little boy, Kim Soo Hyun was very shy, it was his mother idea for him to take acting classes to change his introverted personality and through that his aspiration to pursue acting grew. He then enrolled at Chung Ang University, majoring in Film and Theatre Studies, participated in the musicals Grease and A Midsummer Night's Dream. He was also an underwear model for a friend's online shopping mall before his debut.
Acting career beginnings
He debuted on television with a supporting role in the 2007 comedy "Kimchi Cheese Smile". In 2008 he got a leading role in the youth drama "Jungle Fish", based on a true story that shows the serious school fraud problems, the academic standards of the competition, and interactive blogs in a fresh way. The drama won a number of awards, including the Peabody Award as well as the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union Award. For the second half of the year, he participated in the variety program "Delicious Quiz", as one of the presenters. In 2009, Soo Hyun acted in the short film "Worst Friends" by Namkoong Sun, and the good reception of two SBS episodes end of the year special drama where he acted alongside veteran actor Choi Min Soo. He further raised his profile through as the youngest version of the main male characters in Will it Snow for Christmas? and Giant which earned him his first prize as an actor. Upon receiving the award Soo Hyun made his promise "10 years promise" acceptance speech and was quoted as saying "Please take care of me by giving me more attention in these ten years, I will become a true actor.
Dream High and singer debut
He starred in the popular youth drama Dream High. He was the only young actor in a cast of young idols. For this part, Soo Hyun studied singing and dancing for three months at JYP Entertainment before shooting the required scenes for the drama. According to the producer, he lived differently from the other students at JYP, since he had to learn to sing and dance he had to work for hours every day. For the drama soundtrack, he recorded two songs, Dreaming, as well as Dream High with the rest of the cast. He appeared on several music shows and concerts after the end of the theater and even made a cameo in the pilot episode of the second season.
