Fukatsu Eri has been known as an actress with potential all along and became very popular when she starred in Odoru Daisoussasen as Onda Sumire. She is now acting in Slow Dance with Tsumabuki Satoshi which is her first drama in 2 years since Suekko Chonan Ane Sannin where she appeared as a married couple with Okada Junichi. Even though the attention was on Hirosue Ryoko before the season started, she has successfully turned the attention to herself with a stellar performance in the first episode which had the highest ratings among the competition.

Besides dramas, Fukatsu is also active in stage works and CMs. She has 4 CM endorsements at the moment including Suntory while her last stage play, Hashire Merusu Shoujo no Kuchibiru kara wa Dynamite was shown from Dec 04 to Jan 05. That play was the 4th production of producer, Noda Hideki which she had participated in since the 1997 production, Kiru. During one of Noda's workshops, he said that you don't have to put on a sad face to say sad lines which was said to have changed the way Fukatsu acted.

Due to her working relationship with Noda, she came to know Tsutsumi Shinichi who starred in Kiru with her and they were caught dating in Disney Sea three years ago after working on Koi no Chikara.

Fukatsu's first rumoured relationship was in 1995 with musician Osawa Kenji and they were caught by the tabloids. Both parties denied any romantic involvement then but something interesting to note is that Osawa and Noda were both from Tokyo University so it was said that she has a penchance for intellectual men.

Fukatsu was born on 11 Jan 1973 in Oita City to an engineer father and a fashion researcher mother. She does not have any siblings. Due to the nature of her father's work as a communications engineer, he was always away from home and overseas at African countries. However, being an only child did not mean that Fukatsu was pampered and she was disciplined strictly by her mother.

When she was young, she wasn't very healthy. During Primary 4, Fukatsu started to play soccer with the boys and slowly regained her vitality. At 14, she won the Miss Harajuku Contest during the Harajuku music festival and entered showbiz. Subsequently, she graduated from Horikoshi Gakuen in 1992. At the time of her debut, Fukatsu used her own name and two other names, Mizuhara Rie, Takahara Rie but finally decided to use her real name in the end.
