Synopsis
The drama follows He Yan, the eldest daughter of the He family forced to disguise herself as the family's legitimate heir He Rufei to preserve their noble status.
In her youth, He Yan encounters the gifted Xiao Jue at Xianchang Academy, but later abandons scholarly pursuits to forge her own destiny on the battlefield. Years later, she returns but the family conspires against her because of her brother. He Yan survives and reinvents herself as the city gate captain's daughter He Yan. Disguised as a man, she enlists in the Yezhou army, determined to reclaim her rightful legacy. Her journey intertwines with the gentle and noble Chu Zhao, while fate reunites her with Xiao Jue. Xiao Jue is suspicious of He Yan’s identity and is repeatedly testing her loyalty. He Yan finally proves her capabilities when she tops the Yezhou military exams. Through life-threatening trials including the Sun family incident, Princess Jiyang affair, and the defense of Rundu City, their adversarial relationship gradually transforms into mutual understanding and affection forged in the fires of war.
