Synopsis

During the Northern and Southern Dynasties,the Western Wei enslaved large numbers of civilians. The slave girl, Chu Qiao (Zhao Li Ying), is thrown into a forest along with other slaves and becomes the next hunting target for the rich lords. She is saved by the Prince of Northern Wei, Yan Xun (Dou Xiao). Afterwards, she is brought into a powerful family of Yuwen and witnesses their bloody power struggle. Seeing this, she swears to take her younger sister and flee from the situation. However, she catches the attention of Yuwen Yue (Lin Geng Xin), and undergoes strict training while building a sense of companionship with Yan Xun. Unfortunately, the Emperor of Western Wei is distrustful of the powerful Yan clan, and slaughters Yan Xun's entire family.

After that incident, Yan Xun grows ambitious and cruel to avenge for the things and the people he lost. He doubts Chu Qiao and takes advantages of her loyalty and love many times, disregarding their relationship as well as the sacrifices he will have to make for power. Disappointed with the man she once loved, Chu Qiao eventually breaks off her relationship with Yan Xun and decides to join hands with Yuwen Yue, yet she may be too late...

The shooting wrapped up on November 21, 2016
It is produced by Ciwen Media, Mitao Media, and Croton Media.
Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios and Inner Mongolia.
Filming lasted around five months beginning May 30, 2016 and ending October 31, 2016.
The drama received consistently high ratings during its run.
The cast and crew held an open house on Aug. 24, 2016, inviting the media from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan to visit the set.
During a press conference held for the show, Lin Geng Xin and Zhao Li Ying exchanged gifts on stage. He gave her a pillow with a husky on it while she gave him his favorite la tiao snack.
Lin Gen Xin shared that he wasn't allowed to smile for most of the drama as the director would stop him from smiling. Zhao Li Ying added that an unsmiling Lin Geng Xin was cool and had he smiled, he would have been a completely different character.
Zhao Liying and popular singer Zhang Bi Chen sang the opening theme song Wang.
Wang Yan Lin described his character as a bad egg and likened his evilness to Rong Mo Mo from My Fair Princess.
Zhao Li Ying said that she wanted a vacation right after filming wrapped because playing the hero is not easy.
Zhao Li Ying lost eight pounds for the role. She was also in constant communication with the author and the director to better understand the character.
Princess Agents was filmed in Hengdian during the hot summer. The temperature would sometimes reach 40 degrees Celcius, yet Lin Geng Xin continued to film his action scenes despite suffering from rhinitis.
Xing Zhao Lin did all of his difficult action scenes even at the expense of getting injured.
Zhao Liying is the one who suggested Dou Xiao for the role of Yan Xun. Lin Geng Xin reportedly signed on for the project because it was being headlined by Zhao Li Ying.
Many people were furious at the way the drama ended so abruptly as it only tackled a portion of the novel. Zhao Li Ying was reportedly also disappointed that the drama wasn't a complete adaptation.
