Yan Ya Lun, unlike Wu Chun, had stated his year of birth. When he signed up for Sunny Boy Competition in 2004, the application stated he was born in 1985. He might have purposely over represented his age, similar to Hebe Tien for the Cruel Stage competition (which later formed the group S.H.E), in order to meet the age qualification. However, since there is no other official record to back up 1986 being the correct year of birth, we'll take his word and keep 1985 as the year of birth.
