NHK (日本放送協会, Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai), is Japan's public broadcaster. The NHK Taiga Drama is an annual historical renzoku drama, starting with Hana no Shogai in 1963. Most taiga dramas aired from early January to late December each Sunday at 20:00 (Japan). As of 2006, all but one drama is based on a jidaigeki theme.
