Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty

Yin'E vs Yin Er
I was going by Romanization in subtitles on Viki (2min 41sec). I often see subtle differences. More so for Korean as they seem to have different ways to spell G vs. K, u vs. oo. The second character doesn't translate (so far that site has been working great for me). So many thanks User:Panwink for the reference in the undo message. I'll probably make more mistakes in the future, but I'm trying to learn. --Vylmen (talk) 09:58, 28 June 2020 (PDT)
Missing roles
| Character / Addressed as | First seen | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Mr. Bei | Episode 1 | owner of the architect firm |
| Xiao Tao | Episode 5 | servant of Ming Wei in the residence |
| Momo | Episode 5 | Etiquette teacher |
| Momo | Episode 9 | Senior servant in charge of Consort De's servants, guide to Ming Wei |
| Minister Songguto | Episode 12 | Minister who stimulated the crown prince to go forward with the coup. Also his uncle. This could be Suǒ é tú if romanized very badly in subtitles. |
Honestly these are probably minor roles as I cannot find their names on usual websites like yue365 or manmankan. You could try seeing if the ending credits include them. Panwink (talk) 07:07, 29 June 2020 (PDT)
- Yes, probably. I'm at episode 11 and it's unlikely the first 3 will come back. All in all, they had more screen time then the young versions of the princes so far, but that can change :). But I'm also putting it here, to see if they are being identified differently later on in the series. I think Momo is a teacher/senior address for female palace personnel? Both these women are in teaching roles. The end credits are too chaotic for me to decipher, since I don't know Mandarin and they aren't romanized / in Pinyin. --Vylmen (talk) 07:26, 29 June 2020 (PDT)
- Is that literal? Are they former wet nurses who are trained in serving at the palace and now fill a teaching roll? Or is it an honorary address, that refers to a woman that takes care of the young? I am learning that Chinese is a very associative and context driven language. --Vylmen (talk) 10:33, 29 June 2020 (PDT)
- This article is quite interesting and I can see how you would end up with a lot of unemployed wet nurses, with good knowledge of palace etiquette and maid duties after a while, so it would be easy to select the ones with teaching qualities for follow up positions. Thanks for the help! --Vylmen (talk) 22:25, 29 June 2020 (PDT)
