Synopsis

The story of Hei Fengxi and Bai Fengxi, and the adventures they embark on together. The story is set in the Da Dong Empire, consisting of 6 states, each ruled by a king. The Imperial Token is lost and whoever obtains it, can claim to be the next emperor. In Yong State, the king has three sons and he has not picked his heir yet and so the fight for the throne intensifies. In the martial world, an ancient evil sect thought defeated, resurfaces after a century bringing destruction to the kingdoms and the people. Can Hei and Bai Fengxi navigate the turmoil and restore order to the world?

  • Filming began on February 3, 2021 and wrapped on June 12, 2021.
  • Filming took place in Hengdian World Studios.
  • Despite allegations of plagiarism with respect to the Royal Nirvana plot and additional allegations of animal abuse, the series surpassed 3 billion views in one month after its release.
  • On May 2, 2022, the author Qing Leng Yue posted on Weibo: "I did not participate in the production of the drama series and have yet to watch it. I do not know the truth of the matter but I can guarantee that the novel was not plagiarised." She also said that the novel was written in 2004 and in the 18 years since then, no one had mentioned it was a plagiarised work.
  • The actress who played the role as Empress Baili's steward, her face has never been revealed, it was because she had an affair with the director. That is why only her voice is heard in this series.
  • The first twelve episodes were released on Netflix US and Europe on April 28th only 10 days after its Chinese release. Netflix released the remaining episodes at six per week on Thursday and the final four on June 2nd.
