That same year he debuted in a more bigger role in "Sleeping Beauty."
In 2009, He started to gain quite an amount of attention as an actor in KBS2 smashing hit The Sons of Sol Pharmacy House, it received 40% viewership numbers with each episode. Then he starred in the MBC action-comedy series Hero, even though he had a supporting role he managed to grab the viewers attention with his comedic timing and martial arts prowess.
He later starred in 2010, in his first starring role in the daily drama Smile, Dong Hae, his acting, in particular, received high compliments from critics and viewers alike. In 2012, he appeared in his first ever villain role in SBS Five Fingers, his performance captivated viewers and impressed critics. After having spent a few years away from the musical theater scene he finally returned in the year 2013 to perform in "The Days," it was a huge success with critics and audiences, and it helped to popularize once more the jukebox musical.
In 2013, he joined the cast of the historical drama Empress Ki where he played Emperor Huizong until 2014. His role was singlehandedly praised by critics and the viewers. The drama was an uproaring success and also quite a popular phenomenon nationwide, the drama's popularity even transcended overseas. Ji Chang Wook from that point forward started to achieve even more recognition than before.
On December 8, he joined the main cast of the KBS2 action-thriller Healer, where he played Seo Jung-hoo, an illegal "night courier" under the alias "Healer" who ends up falling in love with reporter Chae Young-shin played by co-star Park Min Young, the woman he must protect against all odds. Because of the drama, Ji Chang Wook started to gain new fans in every corner of Asia. The drama was a success, and his acting was praised once more. He then starred in a couple of Mandarin-language dramas to challenge himself and go against typecasting.
He returned to the small screen again and made his drama comeback by starring in tvN's The K2, the drama was moderately successful and received favorable reviews, but it was still a success overseas, because of Ji Chan Wook's brand recognition. He then starred in the web drama series Seven First Kisses, in a surprising role.
A year later, in 2017, he starred in the action-thriller Fabricated City, giving an out of the ordinary performance with a lot of range to his acting, he then made a cameo on the comedy-drama film The Bros. He was later cast to play the lead role in SBS Suspicious Partner, the romantic comedy/thriller was a viewership disappointment, and it received mixed reviews.
Currently, Ji Chan Wook is in his mandatory military service. He is scheduled to be discharged on April 28, 2019.
