Feature on Abe Hiroshi, Translated from Gendai Net
Abe Hiroshi is currently starring in manga-adapted drama, Dragonzakura currently showing on TBS. He switched lines to be an actor after starting out as a model and some of his notable works include the TRICK series and he's also involved in this year's Taiga, Yoshitsune. His new movie, Uzume no Natsu was shown from 16 July onwards.
His first drama performance was Atami Satsujin Jiken in 1993 and he played a homosexual ex-high jump athelete who also wore women's clothes which made the critics heap praises on him since then. He was also involved in FujiTV's variety programme, Waratte Iitomo in the "Ii Otooko-san Corner".
However, he experienced his first crisis after starring in the NTV drama, Hatachi Motto Ikitai and was romantically linked to fellow cast member, Sawaguchi Hiroko. Even though both parties denied the rumours, this resulted in a drastic reduction of Abe's work assignments and he was left high and dry for about 1 year. 3 years ago, he was caught dating an ex-model.
Abe was born in June 1964 to a salaryman father and housewife mother in Yokohama. He has an elder brother (5 years older) and a 3-year older sister. His father is only 158cm while his mother is 161 cm while his siblings are also on the short side. However, being good in sports during the schooling days, Abe is the odd one out with a height of 189cm. He was active in the athletics team in the junior hig school days and had aimed to be an Olympic athlete.
He attended Mitsusawa Primary, Matsumoto Junior High and Shirayama Senior High School. He retook his unversity exams before making it to Chuo University's Electrical Engineering Faculty. He took on part time jobs as a newspaper deliveryman and worked in a publishing and printing company. When he was in the second year of university, he won the Non-no Boyfriend Award and became a model. It could be his hunger for success which led to him achieving what he is today.
