To gather information on "tsuchinoko," an unidentified kind of snake which has been a hot topic in papers, Machiko goes into a mountain in the neighboring prefecture and happens to meet a keen tsuchinoko researcher from Tokyo. Meanwhile, Machiko’s brother Nobuo gets to be married. The siblings’ mother Kazuyo, who has been living with Nobuo, choses to live alone in a public apartment house.
