Junko’s bag, with Machiko’s manuscript inside, is stolen, while Junko’s father disappears after visiting Machiko. Upon hearing that he was found hospitalized, Machiko rushes to the hospital and later she turns up late for a party of her senior writer. Gossip writer Imura makes up malicious stories from these accidents, and Junko, blaming herself, tells Machiko that she wishes to resign as her secretary.
